Sorry, I keep on pestering about this! Scarlett only gained 2 ounces this week when she was weighed so the HV was asking how much she eats and I had no idea because she never used to finish a bottle due to the fact she was feeding tiny amounts every 2 hours. Yesterday I wrote down everything she ate and it came to 22 ounces. According to the back of the packet a 2 week old weighing 7.5 lbs should be taking 24 ounces and Scarlett is 7 weeks and 9 lbs 5 oz. Is she just not a big eater? I tried making her take as much as possible but she has definitely had enough because she either screams or pushes her gums together so I can't get the teat in. :dohh:

Hi, i'm not sure how much she should have as I bf but my cousin had a similar prob with her lo not being a big eater and was constantly worrying as she would only take tiny feeds and was having way less than the recommended amount, however she is now 2 and a half years old and absolutely gorgeous, she is only a dainty little thing but is in perfect health so try not to stress too much x

I am still writing down everything Anna eats - been doing it since she was born as she lost lots of weight early on.

At 7 wks Anna was taking anything between 20 and 25 oz a day - and she is gaining weight exactly as she should. The Aptamil tub recommends about 25 oz a day for a 4-8wk old baby.

Just a 2 oz gain in a week is not much - it should be much more if she is taking 22 oz a day!!

Last week Anna was taking 25 oz most days but this week it has been around 21 oz as she has dropped the night feed for some reason - but I am not worrying.

You said Scarlett weighs 9lbs 5 at 7 wks - exact same as my Anna - what was Scarletts birthweight?

Annas weight gain over 5 - 8 wks was around 9 oz a week.

She was 7lb 3. She didn't lose any weight when she was born, she gained it so it's not like she has even had to make up a loss :nope: She has been gaining about 6 oz a week I think up until now.

22 oz is fine at 7 wks u dont need to push her to take more. Omar is almost 4 mnths & he only takes between 25-28 oz per day. Sometimes he only can manage to take 20-22 oz. He's a big baby & weighs around 16 lbs.

Ahhh :) Your Gonna have a petite little girl!!

The amount they need is 2.5 times their weight, so for 9lb5 your little girl will need around 23 oz a day,

so they 22oz she took is only slightly less, not as much as you think.

if your offering her more than she takes, your doing the right thing.
atleast your offering her enough.

and she is still gaining, even though it is small.

my liltte boy takes around 26 oz a day, and hes 10lb 4! and gains about 7lb a week.

Just go with her flow :) i'm sure she'll let you know when she needs more. i tried encouraging my Little boy to take more, and he just sicks it all back at me! so i won't be doing that again!

Hope she sorts out for you soon :)

xx

my boys weigh 8lb3 and 8lb6 and are 7.5 weeks odl and take 120ml 8 times a day sometimes 150ml so whats thats omg 32 odd ounces a day - is that too much eekk.

Been writing down Megans oz for only past 2 weeks.... she weighed 5 lbs 14 oz at birth & is now about 12 1/2 lbs.

The 1st week she had anywhere from 22-26 oz a day. This week has been 24-28 oz a day.

Evie is exactly the same as your Omar :) She's 15.8lbs now and 4 months on Saturday. She takes around 25 oz per day whereas she used to take over 30 most days up until a month ago! She was eating so much then that she jumped 2 percentiles :haha: but now she's evened her feeding out and and is still putting on enough to stay in the 75th percentile. Took her to the clinic yesterday and she'd put on 7oz in 2 weeks. The HV said that's about how much most babies put on in a month so I'm not worried now :)

I still write down how much she has per day and what time she was fed too, otherwise my cauliflower brain would forget what time she was last fed :haha:

I think that 2.5x their bodyweight is tripe, my LO has eaten about 22-23oz a day for a while now, and he's 12lb, and gained 7oz this week... but thats 7-8oz of milk LESS than he should be eating, I wouldnt worry as long as LO is gaining :)
