now drinks 5 ounces at each feeding. The doctor said that is fine. It seems like a lot to me. He eats every three-four hours (usually every three, lol). He is gaining weight and is now looking like a chubby little baby. He's over eight pounds.

How much does your newborn eat? :hugs:

Alex has 3.5oz every 4 hours with a 4oz bottle before bed. He now weighs just over 7lbs. The side of the formula tin will give you a rough idea of what your LO should be taking x

Evelyn takes a bottle of expressed milk every 3-4 hours (usually 4). We feed her on demand and so we try to let her sleep, as when she is hungry she wakes up and "tells" us. : ). Also we put about 5 oz in the expressed bottles and let her drink until she doesn't want anymore. She drinks 2 ounces each time. She also nurses 2-3 times / day for about 15-30 minutes each side.

It seems like a lot to me too, as she is just 1 week old and so I will be asking her doctor about it to make sure, however they say that she is suppose to be eating 8-12 times a day and she seems happy so I am guessing she is OK. : )

DS has also been a big eater. Dr. also said just feed him and if he's starting to gain too much then it'll be addressed at his check-ups. So I wouldn't worry. He was 8lbs 1oz. when he was born and he's 12lbs 9oz. now. Here's what he was eating:

1-2.5 weeks: 2 oz. feedings (but was also trying to bf)
3 weeks: 3.5-4 oz. every 3 hours
4 weeks: 4.5-5 oz. every 3 hours
5-9 weeks: 6 oz. every 3 hours
9+ : 6-7 oz. every 3-4 hours

HTH :flower:

my ds has been taking between 6-8 ounces every 4 hours since about 3 weeks (when i stopped bf) but he was 10lbs 10 oz when he was born and is nearly 6 weeks old now.

My LO was exclusively FF from 3 weeks and had 5oz every 3-4 hours he's 8 weeks now and has 6-7 oz still every 2-4 hours. HV said not to go on what the tin says just to give baby what he wants, x

My little girl is just a few days old and is taking 3-4 oz every 3-4 hours now! She's a hungry little girl, but I let her eat what she wants!

Jack is having 5oz every 3-4 hours but has days where he seems to feed all day and snacks every couple of hours!!

I worry he's having too much but he is hysterical if he doesn't feel full xx

My LO was a very fussy eater to begin with (see previous threads), but now drinks about 90ml (3.5oz) every 3 hours -- we try for about 500+ ml per day (I read that he should have 70ml for every lb?) and he has gained back his loss, and is over 7lbs as of last Friday (he was 6lbs. 11 oz at birth but was 36wks due to my pre-eclampsia) -- so I thought 500ml+ was okay? (some days 550-600ml)

best wishes

ps. sorry about the mixed up measurements -- I'm a transplanted American, so am more comfortable in lbs for baby, but the bottles are in metric!

I was wondering what the norm is.. my baby is 4 weeks and 2 days and for the last few days he is taking 6 oz bottles every 3 hours (sometimes every 2.5hours), however he is nearly sleeping through the night. We put him down at 10.30 and he wakes about 5am...?! He is strapping young baby - but can you actually overfeed a baby?!?! HV says he is doing great, putting on weight well, alert when awake, very content baby - doesnt really spit up, and more or less winds himself it is that easy...

can't remember with the first but with the last one my daughter ate 35ml every three hours of 24 calorie formula or breast milk. She was also 8 weeks early so not sure that applies to yours. seems like plenty to me.
