How many ounces should a 4 month old drink a day?

My LO is 4 months old and I am a bit concerned about the amount she eats a day. Sometimes she does great and drinks a 6 ounce bottle, then other times we struggle to get her to eat 3.

I tracked it yesterday and in total she ate 28 ounces of formula plus about 1 tablespoon of Oatmeal cereal. I saw some where though that she should be drinking 2.5 ounces for each pound she weights. She is 14 pounds so that is 35 ounces! She isn't even close to that! I'm tracking again today and it looks as though it is going to be around 28 ounces again.

Should I be concerned? She has always gained but she is on the small side for weight (36%)

Every baby is different and as long as she is gaining weight I wouldn't worry.

My LO would sometimes drink less and sometimes more than the guidelines but he always had consistent weight gain.

You can use this as a rough guide:

Approx. age: Up to 2 weeks; Approx. weight: 3.5kg, 7 3/4lb; No. of feeds per 24 hours: 6; No. of level scoops per feed (1 scoop = 4.5g): 3; Single Feed: 90ml, 3fl oz

Approx. age: 2-4 weeks; Approx. weight: 3.9kg, 8 1/2lb; No. of feeds per 24 hours: 5; No. of level scoops per feed (1 scoop = 4.5g): 4; Single Feed: 120ml, 4fl oz

Approx. age: 4-8 weeks; Approx. weight: 4.7kg, 10 1/2lb; No. of feeds per 24 hours: 5; No. of level scoops per feed (1 scoop = 4.5g): 5; Single Feed: 150ml, 5fl oz

Approx. age: 8-12 weeks; Approx. weight: 5.4kg, 12lb; No. of feeds per 24 hours: 5; No. of level scoops per feed (1 scoop = 4.5g): 6; Single Feed: 180ml, 6fl oz

Approx. age: 3-4 months; Approx. weight: 6.2kg, 13 3/4lb; No. of feeds per 24 hours: 5; No. of level scoops per feed (1 scoop = 4.5g): 6; Single Feed: 180ml, 6fl oz

Approx. age: 4-5months; Approx. weight: 6.9kg, 15 1/4lb; No. of feeds per 24 hours: 5; No. of level scoops per feed (1 scoop = 4.5g): 7; Single Feed: 210ml, 7fl oz

Approx. age: 5-6 months; Approx. weight: 7.6kg, 16 3/4lb; No. of feeds per 24 hours: 5; No. of level scoops per feed (1 scoop = 4.5g): 7; Single Feed: 210ml, 7fl oz

Approx. age: 7-12 months; Approx. weight: -kg, -lb; No. of feeds per 24 hours: 3; No. of level scoops per feed (1 scoop = 4.5g): 7; Single Feed: 210ml, 7fl oz

Ignore the scoops, that's just showing how the ml's or oz's are made up.

My 4 month old weighs approx 14lbs and drinks about 26oz a day. I wouldn't worry as long as he/she is gaining weight, seems happy and healthy!

My baby is also 4 month he has 7 bottles a day of 7 oz n has bit of porridge on a morning but he is so long for his age but me and my partner are both tall which is probably why he eats so much cause he needs the calories in my opinion there are not 2 babies alike and if your baby is happy and putting on weight then your doing a fab job and keep it up x

My 4.5 month old has about 30 oz a day. She is a bit bigger than your baby and was 7 Kg (about 15.5 pounds) at 4 months, so maybe 16 or 17 pounds now. No solids at e moment either.

I make 5 bottles a day for her and she usually leaves some from all her bottles and refuses to take any more, so she must be having what she needs
