How much does an anatomy scan cost

I couldn't guess what it costs the government for our prenatal care, appointments, ultrasounds, etc, since we never see any sort of bill in Canada. However, I do know that to get a private scan (3D), it's in the 100-200 dollar range. And when I am in the hospital, getting a private room is an extra cost that is almost $200 if I want it. Those are the only real costs I know about.

So without going off topic American ladies, what if you got pregnant and couldn't afford the bills? (Single mum, low income, not working, ill, etc any reason) Is there like a welfare thing in place? For free care? Or do you just get a bill and have to pay it off over months and months?

Then you can get on Medicaid which from the people I know who had babys and had Medicaid, they paid zero all was covered. You can get on Medicaid based on income etc. But... then to me I understand some people need it, but geeez I feel screwed that I have to pay thousands for the labor/birth and hundreds through out the pregnancy, and they don't pay a penny.. Idk.

I don't have any insurance and went to a very nice "upscale" specialist and it was $575. They checked everything, cervical length etc, and I got 3D/4D pics and video.

That does seem really high as like Celesse said it's free here but if for some reason you went private it's no where near that much.

But if your insurance is paying it does it matter? Shouldn't they be the ones querying it?

Yes they will definitely pay a part. But i was shocked on how they billed so much to the insurance company. This is from a covered in-network hospital

The whole insurance system is fraudulent.

For a cash paying patient who doesn't have insurance or qualify for any aid, it is about $10k for a natural birth and under $20k for a c-section, provided there are no emergencies, additional surgeries, etc. That is for about a 3 day hospital stay.

For the same procedure with insurance, they can bill up to $50k+. Just because.

It just seems insane you girls in the US get insurance but still have to pay such high amounts! How does anyone afford to have a baby there!

It really depends on your insurance company actually. I pay zero for maternity. Everything is covered 100%, regardless of the number of scans, days in the hospital, etc.

In the UK the average figures are in Dollars $2500 vaginal delivery and $4500 csection.

How do people afford it if babies are in NICU, surely those cost could run into the hundreds of thousands.

Oh I see, yeah it's frustrating I bet!
But similar here regarding benefits you get. A lot of the time if you and your partner work, you get no help but struggle to get by, whereas some people on benefits don't have to work and the government pay for everything. Swings and roundabouts!
But thanks for answering my question xx
