So my little lady isnt the greatest of feeders unfortunately, and I often question how much she should be having - obviously I cant force her to take more, but I would just like to know how your lo's are getting on and what their weight gain has been so far

The approx times she drinks are;
5am
8am
11.30am
3pm
6.30pm
10.30pm

Most of these feeds I am prompting as I believe she wouldnt bother for hours longer. She usually takes between 25-28oz per day. She was born big at just under 10lb, but has at her last weigh in at 8 weeks she had only put on 2lb 9oz. She has dropped 2 centiles, but my hvs arent the normal ones at the moment as they are all of sick so they have been drafted in (in their defence my own hv is amazing, and I cant wait until she is back)...so they arent showing any concern at present. She can also be quicte sickly, usually bring up what I would say is close to a full feed maybe once a day...

She is still so much of a sleeper, and just never seems particularly hungry!! I remember putting my son on hungry baby mil at 12 weeks because he was polishing off 9oz bottles every 3 hrs - completely different babies on the feeding front!!

Thanks ladies xx

PS... I do try to feed her even more regularly but she flat our refuses most of the time!!! grrr... lol..

My daughter is 10 weeks old this week and has a nearly identical routine. She eats about 150 ml 6-7 times a day (sometimes she has an extra feed around 1am). The only difference is she is generally hungry and ready to eat at these times (we feed on demand only since she was BF before this and that's just what we're used to). She's also small for her age. She was 6 lbs 9 oz at birth and remains in the 2nd to 9th centile for weight/length/head circumference, so she's always been tiny. We haven't weighed her in a few weeks but I think she's around 8 lbs or so now. I'm honestly not sure either how much she should be eating, but as she's so small we just go by what she wants. I think as long as your baby is gaining weight well and not dropping significantly in centiles as she grows, then it should be okay. I don't think it's worth forcing too much food on them as they do tend to throw up a lot. I know my daughter tends to throw up a feed (like the whole feed, projectile vomiting style) about every other day if she eats too much or too fast.

My DD drinks about the same as your, but her afternoon feeding schedule isn't always the same, especially now that we go for long walks with the stroller; she can sleep for hours lol. She was 6 pounds when she was born, and 8 1/2 pounds at her 2 months check-up (12th percentile for weight but 50th percentile for height), now she's probably around 9 or 9 1/2 pounds??

Thanks for the replies ladies. I suppose because she was a big baby born I expect her to continue getting bigger, she started at the 98th centile and now is just hovering on the 75th centime, so she is over 12lb now which sounds big compared to your lo;s but given she was born bigger. I did speak to my hv very briefly during her 8 week jabs, and she is going to have a look into her weight and charts properly when we next go in for her to be weighed.. I am just hoping she has put on a nice big number :)

Have your lo's feeds increased?! dd's has always fed about the same since she was 2 weeks old...

This sounds like a good plan. If they aren't incredibly concerned then it's probably okay. My experience is HV's tend to be overly cautious so that's a good sign. Could be she is just plateauing before a growth spurt?

We were breastfeeding until 8 weeks and she still gets some expressed milk so I have no idea about how much the amounts should be increasing. We started at 120 ml at 8 weeks and now do 150 ml, but she doesn't always finish it and her breastmilk bottles are still only about 100-120 ml.

Jonathan eats a lot. Five ounces seven or eight bottles a day. By ten weeks he was four ounces away from doubling his birth weight !! Always concerned he is overfed.. he never vomits and will flip if he doesnt eat every three hours. Doc assures me hes fine..

He sounds like he is doing great!! My ds was like that, he just completed demolished his feeds, and gained weight amazingly. He was always on the biggers side, but now he is walking he looks a skinny minnie with his little hamster cheeks - you would never tell he was such a hungry boy as a baby so dont be worried..

I think thats why I find it so hard with dd - she is such a monkey with her feeds, and slow weight gain!! Anyhow weigh day tomorrow - I think she has put on a good amount of weight (she looks bigger in a way), so we will see!!! Fingers crossed!!

xx

awww thanks hun :hugs: he eats like a champ! lately hes been going more then 3 hours though. And i got my first six stretch of real sleep last night. 6 hours!!!! Hope DD's appt went well!!

Hehe... Good for you - If u had crappy pregnancy insomnia (I did and it was dreadful) I bet it feels like years since you had a few consecutive hours sleep! Lol! :) I dreamfeed dd her 10.30pm feed and then she doesn't wake until 5-5.30 and its been like that for weeks!! Sounds good but given her rubbish feeding not so :-(

So appt was pretty pants! She has gained weight but still sitting 2 centiles under her birth (and 4 week weight). So I now have to speak to my hv to discuss what's happening and they plan to review her weight. The reason they were showin concern at her last appt was because they expected her to have a nice big growth spurt - but that hasn't happened!! :-( she was glad she had put on, which is great... But the concern is that she drops further :-(

I was up every hour pretty much after 22 weeks to pee - then it would take me 30 mins to fall back asleep. It was awful! I was huge and soo uncomfortable.. i knew id go early! (water broke at 36+3) So i actually feel like im sleeping better now!

Im sorry about the appointment :hugs: its great she gained, hope evreythings okay!

Oh it was dreadful wasnt it!! thank heavens thats over with and bubas are here!! I say that often to my hubby that sleep is better now, hew disagrees but what would he knows, he never got to experience baby bouncing on the bladder syndrome!!

Thanks, hopefully we will find out more soon - she likes to keep me on my toes!! Cheeky little miss!! :)

I believe our LO have the same birthday? 2-4?

My LO was diagnosed w. reflux, and her way of dealing with the pain (before I realized she had reflux), was to eat as often as she can, despite the arching back, the fighting the bottle, etc.

She eats about 2-4oz, about every 2-3 hours, averaging about 28-30oz a day.

She was born 6lbs 1oz, left the hospital at 5lbs 7oz.

She was breast fed the first full month, and was 9lbs 2oz at her one month.

We had to quit BF cold turkey as I got extremely sick, put on medication that was no good for BF, hospitalized for 5 days, and finally had surgery...so she was FF for the second month.

At her 10 week check up, I was amazed that LO is now 12lbs 10oz! More than doubled her birth weight and went from the 15th percentile, to the 90th!

how did you know she had reflux? i keep talking to my pediatrician about Jonathan, but he says he doesnt have it..

Recently his eating has slowed down, but before he used to just eat and eat and eat. He "sputters" sometimes while eating, he has choked, he arches, and refuses the bottle even though he is hungry =\

my little lady was born the 2nd, but nearly the same! :) Wow you sounds as though you have been through the mill, but your lo sounds like she is doing sooo amazingly well!! I thought reflux babies sometimes struggled with weight gain, but it sounds like your lo is beating that down! Good girl! :)

my little lady was just short of 10lb born, and has put on just over 3lb. She is still super fussy and today we have managed just 22oz of milk, over 8 feeds!! Whilst projectile vommiting twice - not expecting a huge weight gain next weigh in :-( xx
