Hi there,

I was breast feeding exclusively for the first 10 weeks and gave up totally last week.

My baby is taking 5 bottles in the day and one and a half in the night equalling a whopping 43ish oz a day.

Now I used to breast feed on demand and wasn't making enough milk for my baby so she had weight gain issues (being a slow gainer and then losing weight )

When I had her weighed at 3 months she'd thankfully gotten out of the below 2nd percentile and come above the 9th.

She weighed 5.02kg at 3 months so she's still on the small side of things.

I think she's gained since then but my question is: Am I feeding her too much or is she playing catch up for all the milk she didn't have early on?

She was born on the 50th percentile so wondering if she needs more to get back to a more average percentile for her?

Everywhere I read, that much milk seems like too much.

Also, the one and half bottles in the night (after which she's learnt to self settle herself the sweetheart) :cloud9: are they necessary until a certain age and is she waking because she's hungry?

Thanks in advance for your replies. :flower:

Hollie isn't as old as your LO but we've had the same problem, kind of. She was born in the 50th percentile and has maintained that until recently. I have been combi feeding but it's obviously not been enough as she's now dropped to the 9th percentile.
I am now fully FF and I am going to get weighed in a couple of weeks on the advice of the HV. Hollie has between 25oz and 30oz a day so she's not that far behind your LO and yours is a month and a half older.
I'm a big believer in if babies need it they will drink it, so maybe she is making up for before. After all if she wasn't hungry she would refuse it.

Hi, Ollie is roughly 11lb at 15 weeks, he was under the 5th percentile at birth (he was 4lb 14) and is only about on the 5th now i think but he has roughly 30oz a day (he sleeps through from 7-7.30 so no night feeds), if she's hungry then let her have it, the guides on the tin are just that, a guide, each baby is different. If you're concerned maybe give your HV a call and see what she suggests.

Omar's Dr. told me to stop counting scoops & feed on demand. I never had a hungry baby & he's 5 mnths now & only manages 28 oz per day. He's a big baby on the 82 percentile (weight & height). He was on the 50th when he was born & since he was 4 wks old he's been on the 82nd.
