I'm really not sure what I should be doing with my LO.

Since he was born we made up bottles with 3fl ozs and he only had 1-2 at first every 3-4 hours, but gradually he's started to nearly finish each bottle. So tonight we've started making up 4 fl oz bottles.

Now here's my dilemma.....2 hours ago he had a 3fl oz bottle and wanted more, so I made up another and he had 2 more fl ozs. He feel asleep for about an hour, but then woke.

He's now doing his hungry cry, he's sucking on anything he can, although when I give him a dummy he soon realises there's no milk coming and spits it out.

I think we should be feeding on demand....if he wants more lets give him more. But my OH is worried he's having too much and that we should somehow entertain him for another hour or so until his next feed is due.

What do I do ladies??? If he's hungry surely we give him food??

Current advice seems to be feed on demand. Thats what I do as there's no way I could keep my baby entertained for an hour when hungry!

Iv always fed on demand.... People used to say I shouldnt but why should Oliver go hungry?? Anyway once hes hungry theres no stopping him screaming unless ive got milk... He now has 7oz hungry baby milk every 3 hours....x

Thanks ladies. I thought I should feed on demand too. I think my problem is that my OH isn't working at the moment so we share looking after Ben 50/50 which means we keep having rows about what we should be doing!!

He gave in last night and gave him more milk!! As you say no one can entertain a screaming baby!!!

My HV said that you can't feed them too much, they will either stop feeding or bring up anything extra as Joe has always taken more than it says on the cow & gate box for his age.
We fed on demand too for the first month or so and then he fell into a routine of feeding every 3 hours.

My little man is 2 weeks old today and already on hungry babies he was guzzling 3-4oz every hour of stage 1 formula, i told the midwife that i switched and she told me so long as babies aren't fetching it back up being sick they must need it and to feed on demand.

It could be a groth spurt, they have a few in the first 3 months or so, and I remember Bradys feeding was pretty erratic in the early days. He also started having what i thought was quite a lot (5 oz every 3 hours) at this age but then he had the same feeding pattern for ages and has only started having more now

We feed Esmé on demand. Hubby was given book in afghan about getting baby into routines with feeding & was adamant that's what we were to do. I pointed out that we eat when we are hungry, which isn't always at the same times, so LO should be able to feed when she wants. X

aww, i'm glad i read this... i've been having the same problem with jett. he had a 2 oz bottle, then a few minutes later another 1 oz, then about an hour later he had 3 oz... lol i feel like it's so much!

Emilie got herself in a routine of every 3 - 4 hours but our plan was to feed on demand

do what you feel is best :hugs:
