How many ounces should I be giving my baby - he is 11 days old and was taking about 2-3 ounces every 3 hours but today he has been draining his bottle and seems to want more within 2 hours. Should I be giving him 4 ounce bottles instead and letting him take what he wants? I'm just worried in case I overfeed him.

my LO was draining her 3oz and so i started to put an extra ounce in and she's a bit better about feeding, occasionally she'll want a bit more 2 hours later but it'll only be a little bit every now and then

saw my HV today and told her about it, and she said that as soon as they start to drain bottles then to add an extra ounce in :)

if you overfeed him he'll probably just be sick (which is lovely - my carpet is covered where my OH doesn't burp Tegan properly! she's rarely sick on me - yay!)

if he doesn't want the extra ounce, don't force him, he may just take a little bit of it - tegan will have 2.5 oz to the full 4 depending on the time of day but she seems to be a fussy cow already!

Sam is like this too, he has a 3oz bottle 4 hourly then wants a bit more every 2 hours. I spoke to HV today and she said its fine to give him 3-4oz bottle then a bit more if he wants it in between.

Yep, what the other have said. Give more if they drain a bottle. At that age by the way, don't worry if you're feeding every 2 hours. They'll soon go longer once their tummies are bigger and can take more milk at once.

i was worried about overfeeding Roo too as shes always taken more than she 'should' My HV's advice was that its almost impossible to overfeed a baby, and if they do take too much it will come back up again, so just let them be your guide.....

Thanks everyone, it's good to know we wont turn him into a porker then lol!
