I started at a normal BMI of 22

Due to first trimester nausea and eating so much beige to counteract it I always seem to put on more than average in the first tri. I've been feeling better and so trying to eat healthier/a normal diet for me in the past few weeks and I haven't gained any weight since New Year. However my total gain so fair is around 12lb which seems an awful lot to me. I'm actively restricting 'bad' foods and eating lots of protein like nuts and healthy snacks like fruit. So everything that should technically keep me in the healthy weight gain category yet I seem to have put too much on. I keep hearing people the same stage say they weight less or the same at this stage. Like how is that even possible?!

Anyone have any ideas!

12lbs sounds normal to me..
Iv put on 14lb ...did have 3lb more but ill at mo so lost 3lb !!

It says 5lb in first tri and then 4lb per month..so sounds perfect to me

Ive put on 12 pound in 25 weeks but was really, really sick in first tri.

Honestly, each pregnancy is different, I'm in my 4th pregnancy, and the first two pregnancies I lost weight in the first tri, this pregnancy and my last I've gained about 10-12lbs due to extreme nausea and not being able to lay on the couch and be sick all day(I've got other kids to take care of), I have stuffed my face to keep the nausea at bay lol!!!
Now that I'm 17 weeks my weight gain has totally slowed down, and I stick to a paleo based diet. Of course allowing myself a treat once in a while lol....
The weight you have gained is totally normal and I wouldn't worry about it. Like you said you are eating healthy, and your body will gain what it needs to.
Hugs and don't stress over it, enjoy your pregnancy

It's not fair to yourself to compare to tons of other pregnant women. My first pregnancy I gained 30lbs total and my second only 18lbs total. After seeing that I know that it's your body and we just need to relax and enjoy such a temporary time in our lives. It's only 9 months. Enjoy yourself and food but make sure to eat healthy things when you can. That's my motto! Good luck!

I've stopped weighing myself! :haha: I did feel down but I've accepted that I lost my baby weight before so I can do it again.

That's TOTALLY normal and you should NOT be starving yourself to keep weight gain low. Please, don't stress about it, and don't try NOT to gain anything because it could deprive the baby of nutrients.
I'm 20 weeks and I've gained 13 pounds. At least. I exercise regularly and eat reasonably. I started out with a low-ish BMI but you know what? I don't own a scale and honestly don't care. I NEVER had morning sickness so I gained weight in the 1st trimester: I was so, so hungry, really starving, after 3-4 hours of not eating, so I ate. Yes, I tried to eat healthy stuff, but I also love baking so there are often home-made cookies or muffins in the house. I also had low magnesium and iron so I ate filling foods like meat, beans, and grains.
In my first pregnancy, I also gained quickly. I'd wake up at 5 a.m. starving. I was very slender back then so it made sense to me that the calories were useful to my baby. I gained 35 pounds total in the pregnancy. My baby was not big at all, and I lost 20 pounds in the first month postpartum (no, no dieting at all; yes, breastfeeding a lot). My point is that your body has instincts for a reason: they are often healthy. If it needs calories, you will be hungry.
Of course I don't like feeling like I'm on the top end of the weight gain charts, but ultimately it does not matter unless you are really truly gaining a giant amount. But you aren't. Please don't worry.

I wouldn't worry too much about gaining weight

I had horrific morning sickness that stopped around 14 weeks and I'm still around 6 pounds lighter than when I first got pregnant.

I had my anatomy scan and baby was measuring a week ahead almost!

With my first two I'd put on about 7/8 pounds by 20 weeks because I had less sickness.

I think 12lb isn't bad AT All

Thanks ladies some of these posts have made me feel better about it. I've had two children before and lost the weight fine. I have no idea why I'm so stressed about it this time.

First preg I gained about 46lb but I was so swollen and fluid overloaded and had pre eclampsia at the end. Second pregnancy I gained 35lb which seemed fine to me and I wasn't swollen. I think I'm worrying because this pregnancy has 'felt' just like my first, something I've been saying from the word go. We've found out the baby has a kidney problem just like my first (my second doesn't) which made sense to me because of how I've just been feeling the same. So I think it follows that I'm terrified I'll gain that much again and be overloaded with fluid :(

I haven't weighed myself in a few weeks but I'd guess I gained about 6-8lbs at 21 weeks. For some reason I look big (boobs trippled, bump is a nice big hard bump, gained in my face)
I'm surprised the scale is only saying so little lol.
My doctor told me tho that weighing yourself means nothing because we could be weighing donuts and ice cream, or we could be weighing baby, placenta, fluids, etc.
As long as baby is healthy weight gain for us is not important ;)

I have gained 20 lbs of invisible weight so far. 12 lbs by 14 weeks actually and the only reason I am not past 20 now is because I have been dealing with an infection since Christmas and lost some weight.
I eat no junk food whatsoever. Just a healthy diet and not that many carbs due to health reasons.
I don't look any bigger either. I call bs on the weight gain guidelines

I hadn't gained any by 20 weeks this pregnancy and last pregnancy. Ive now gained about 2kg at almost 30 weeks. :)

I'm 19 weeks and gained 2lbs. I honestly don't know how it's only 2 lbs as I feel I eat more regularly now...... But I wouldn't care if I'd gained 2 or 20 lbs as long as baby is ok. My body is out of my control for the next 5months......it's been hijacked and il deal with the end result after birth.... Then I'm in control & see how to shift the weight! Xx
