I was given the spinal and if allowed to choose I recommend that one. The anesthesiologist explained the difference and the spinal needle is an eight of the size smaller and only goes into the surrounding spinal fluid so it is technically safer he said and he prefers them if possible. They will give you an injection prior to numb your back that he described as a "Texas mosquito bite" or very big mosquito bite
It was just like a very big pinch and at the time I was doing that "ow ow ow ow OW!" thing but the numbing injection kicks in so quick it didn't last long at all. The main thing I would say is speak with your anesthesiologist. If it were for how amazing ours was I don't think I would have felt comfortable at all. If you can make sure you are with someone patient, experienced, and well prepared
Just to give you some info on Logan's birth:
EDD: July 14th
We went into the hospital at 5am on July 9th to try to get him turned because he was breech. If he didn't turn I would need a c-section and it was up to me to do it that day or come back if he wouldn't turn. At noon the Dr.'s came in to do the procedure but his butt was pretty well suctioned and engaged a bit so there was no way to turn him. I was devastated. We were planning on a natural water birth and that was ripped from my grasp
After a good long cry we decided since I was already hooked up to an IV and everything we would go ahead at 5pm and do the section. I took a nice long nap to prepare and relax. I hadn't had anything to eat or drink since 2am that morning!
It was awful. I am actually very happy with my experience of my surgery though. Go in with a positive mind and try to make peace with what is happening. I was able to see him when they took him out and cleaned him up. DF cut the cord and then brought him over after they wrapped him up and sat with me and I got to kiss on LO and talk to him while they finished up. I honestly would not mind having another one. My midwife was in the room and got the most lovely pictures for us so we could concentrate on his birth. Ask questions and go in with a PMA and you will do lovely!
Just think you get instant results! I got to bf in the recovery room almost immediately
