I had a D&C last week when I would have been 9 weeks along.

I was given an anti-d shot after it because I'm Rh negative.

How soon can I get pregnant after having the shot?

I've got an appointment with my OB in a month and will ask her then, but I'm just wondering what everyone else has been told.

I'm Rh negative and had the rhogam shot about a week before my D&C after I had some spotting (before we discovered the mmc). My OB said to have one normal period and then we could try again. Different OBs likely give different advice. I don't think the shot makes a difference in timing. It is just there to protect future babies from your body from what I understand.

For the record my D&C was April 21st. I would have been 10 weeks, but baby stopped growing at 8. I am now 6 weeks along in a new pregnancy.

Thank you for your reply! I'm sorry to read of your loss. Congratulations on the new pregnancy!

I have heard some OBs say to wait for one period after a MC, then try again after that, but I have read that they mostly say that because it makes it easier to calculate the due date of the new pregnancy.

I've got 3 children already and had the rhogam shot after each birth, then my OB told me to do a blood test after 6 months to see if the coombs test was negative again. I was never thinking to conceive during that time so never asked the question.

As I wrote, I'll be seeing my OB in a month but I'm stressing out wondering whether I'm not going to be able to try again for 6 months or something. Obviously you've conceived before that so good to know it's possible!

I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly xx

I don't know about the anti-d shot as I'm Rh+ but after a d&c you can try straight away. I had a d&c in early April just before Easter, ovulated two weeks later, got my first period exactly 28 days after the d&c (so completely normal cycle) and then we tried and got pregnant that 2nd cycle. You can technically try straight away without every having a period, but I personally didn't feel ready and really needed a break from being pregnant before we tried again.

Thank you!

Glad to know you can get pregnant right away and it-s encouraging to hear that you ovulated 2 weeks later, I hope the same will happen for me!

I've heard various things about doctors saying to wait a month so the next pregnancy can be more accurately dated or to let the body heal from the trauma. I guess I'll wait and see what happens!

Ya, my OB asked me to wait one cycle, but it was mainly for dating purposes. He of course said not to try until I was emotionally ready, but he said that could be anytime.
I don't think I ovulated that first cycle after the D&C anyway. I tried to track and my OPKs made it look like my body tried and failed several times. Second cycle was back to normal and I got pregnant. I asked my husband about the shot (he's a family doctor, but does some OB) and he said it really isn't a concern as far as he knows and told me not to worry. So I don't think you need to be concerned, but definitely ask your OB.

I had the Rhogam shot twice during my first pregnancy, once at about 7 weeks for unexplained bleeding and then once at a later point in the pregnancy (I think it was 28 weeks). So I had the shots while pregnant and everything was fine. So it shouldn't be a problem, I think. Good luck!

I had anti d shots for miscarriages. It's just to make sure you don't develop antibodies in your blood and as far as I know you can get pregnant straight away.
