hiya all, ok so i got my real BFP on sunday i had one smoke left so i had it knowing it was my last one ever,
so sunday was 2 days ago now and im ready to kill or scream at someone, i know im doing this for my baby and thats what calms me down a bit but what do you suggest i do when the stress gets too much, and the craving takes over, i guess im only asking smokers or used to be smokers, non smokers just wont get it, im going completely cold turkey and if you did the same how long before you stopped wanting a smoke????
thanks in advance for you reply's

I read Allen Carr's Easyway. Totally helped with the cravings- you look at them in a positive way instead of a negative. I would swear by this book! GL and FX for you!

I feel exactly the same, I had my last cig before my BFP, which I wasn't expecting, therefore, I didn't treat it as my last! Now I am left craving one but OH refuses to let me have a little bit of one just to say good bye, I know he is right but it doesn't help when he is nipping out for one every 5 mins

To be honest the craving doesn't go away for a while. I quit the minute I found out I was pregnant with my son and I was a smoker for 8 years. Its the best thing i've ever done. I haven't started back up either. You just have to fill your time when you used to smoke with doing something else...even if its just watching tv. Eventually the cravings get easier. Its definitely not easy though.

surely he should be quitting with you though???? right???? thats not fair, i hope you prove your strong and keep it up xx

I understand how tough it is. I've gone from smoking about a half pack a day to now 3 cigarettes a day. My goal is to be completely smoke free by the weekend/early next week. I keep telling myself I am going to quit because I love this baby. It's really hard, especially since I've been smoking for about 5 years, but I know I can do it. And I will do it regardless :)

It is so, so hard. Today I had one smoke, my last.. and I've only been having one a day since I found out but I still feel guilty for that. It is so hard and I'm angry and it makes all my bad feelings magnified! I feel more stressed, more worried, more everything. But I know it will be worth it it's just hard to see past right now sometimes. I try to just occupy my time and avoid things that I know are triggers for me.

The 3rd day is the worst, after that, it's a piece of cake! Good luck =]

It was easy for me quitting for my baby. Apparently this child doesn't like the cigarette smell. It makes me nauseous to the point where I will vomit my "insides out". So my husband doesn't even smoke near me. I couldn't believe something I did every day for the past 3 years made me sick! Try not eating in the morning and when you're feeling the morning sickness, light up a cigarette. I will be surprised if after pregnancy I will be able to go back to smoking! If not, it will be just fine :) :happydance:

Heh, same here.. I hit 6 or 7 weeks and couldn't stand the smell of smoke. I'd even move if a smoker sat next to me on the bus because it'd make me retch!

So I guess my cravings were gone pretty early on, I consider myself lucky I got that MS aversion though, without it it would have been SO much tougher.

Good on you OP for wanting to stop, you can do it!

Where i live , I get a midwife come round once a week where she gives me nicotine replacements (patches , gum , etc etc ) and it's free cos I'm pregnant , and once you've quit for 4 weeks u get £20 voucher for either tescos or boots to treat ur self , and they cheek ur carbonminoxide levels and bubba's levels mine went from 11which is high smoker to 2 which is non smoker in a week , ..... But ask ur midwife or GP about the service it really is good , x

Hey,

first off, good for you, you've made it 2 days already which is definitely an achievement cause the first few days are by far the hardest. Ive now been off them 2 1/2 weeks and after the first 3-4 days it really wasnt that bad, most of the physical withdrawals had gone by then and then it's just a case of getting your head round it. So you're mostly there already :) :)

If it's really bad though you could try the nicotine spray or the low nicotine gum like i did (it takes the 'i want to kill someone' edge off but is so horrible and will give you such a sore throat that there is no chance of you getting hooked on it!) which my midwife says are fine.

Keep up the good work and good luck!

thanks for your support and tips everyone, im on day 3 and feel pretty calm actually lets hope this feeling stays for the day!!! i think ive done the hardest 2 days as i was in work monday evening and tues evening and thats when i smoked more im off tonight so im hoping it wont cross my mind (as much) ha ha ha, good luck and keep it up to those in the same boat as me, WE CAN DO THIS xxx

Hi I've never smoked but I do have a massive diet coke habit so I'm trying to not drink it because of the caffine. That's hard enough to give up so just wanted to say we non smokers do have some idea (I know smoking is much harder as there are so many more things in them to be addicted to)

I am grumpy and have head aches all the time from the caffine withdrawal. As some one else said, speak to a mw they might be able to help with nicotine replacement or even therapy to overcome the addiction.

Good luck and try to remember your baby when things get hard.

Yeah! It will be 9 months of non smoking, who wouldn't be able to quit. Can't blame it on stress because there's no way a baby can bring stress! Just certain people around!

I quit in February. It gets so much easier really quickly so keep going. I struggled for 3 days, then at 3 weeks, then 3 months. You know you dont have to do it cold turkey, you can use patches and they help so much!

I had a patch on for just the day times and then I also used Bachs Rescue remedy as well. That was really good! Tasted of brandy but relaxed me so much that I was thinking..Fag...what fag!

I smoked for 17 years, 20 a day minimum, B&H Gold! So the strong ones.

Keep it up its so worth it. Just lying in bed and being able to take big lung falls of air, walking up the stairs not feeling puffed out at the top. I also seem so much more motivation to go and do things like exercise, cinema, socialising as I dont have to worry about having to go outside for a smoke on my own whilst everyone else is inside and smelling when you come back in. Or being at the gym and being so puffed out I could only do half of what I can do now! Oh and the taste and smell of things, Walking past a flower bed and smelling the flowers without having to lean in. Your life will be so much better with out that dirty little ex friend of yours that tied you down.

If you have a smart phone download some of the quit apps. They are good motivation! Mine currently sits at the following info:

Quit on the 23rd February,
29 weeks and 6 days, 19 hours since I quit,
I have saved £1573.71 by choosing not to smoke 4196 cigarettes,
I have saved 4 weeks, 4 days, 1 hour and 22 minutes of my life.

Incidently I have spent 5 years trying for a child. I give up and 6 months later Im pregnant!

Keep it up, you are nearly over the worst few days!
