I tried the first time dissolving the tab (mups) in 30ml of prepared formula, gave it LO who drank the lot but there is alot of granules stuck in the teat so got my finger and wiped them in the inside of LOs cheek and gave him a full bottle of formula after which he drank no probs. There is still granules left in the bottle though so I dont think he has had enough of the tablet, any advice?

We had this exact same problem hon  and I think this was the main reason why it didnt work for Charlie, the Dr wasnt even helpful when we commented about this :growlmad:

Am sorry thats not really helpful is it :nope: but I think you are doing the best you can to ensure your LO gets as much of the dose as possible :flower:

Thanks hun, luckily we have a helpful lot at the pharmacy who said we should not have been given the capsule form as the little crystals just dont dissolve so they gave us the lopas mups (sp?) form. Oh...I jst read I shouldnt have mixed it with formula just water...will try mixing it with a bit of cooled boiled water and syringing it, would that work? LO is used to syringes as he has x3 a day of ranitidine. The paed was a bit clueless looking back, he said dissolve it on a spoon and keep mixing it then give it LO who is only 11 weeks so he isnt going to accept a spoon doh!

We got the same sort of uselessness hon  Charlie has had both ranitidine and omeprazole both of which didnt help us even though they are quite strong reflux meds hes now on infant gaviscon and its like I have a totally different baby from the screaming and shrill crying one he initially was :) I hope the omeprazole works for you :hugs:

You can't get the pharmacy to crush it for you into a mix?? My daughter us on it and the pharmacy premakes it for into A liquid. It has less of a shelf life and has to stay in the fridge but would save you a load of work. I'm not sure what my pharmacy mixes it with but I get it done to liquid form and they gave me the syringe with the dosage she has to take.

Thanks, I know they do a liquid form, I keep hearing about it, I reckon its more expensive so they dont dish it out as much which is usually what it boils down to. If we dont get on with dissolving it in water and syringing it I will ask for this.

We did try Gaviscon but gave LO had hard poops and he was much worse even though we had lactolose as well I took him off it within 36 hrs as things were so much worse.

Liquid form needs to be made up, hence why its expensive. Luckily we have a Dr whos son also has/had reflux and so are prescibed it. Its a teeny bottle though which only lasts a few weeks...

We've been using this for a while now, here's what we do

When LO was really small we used to dissolve the tablet in a small amount of cooled boiled water and then pour most of the excess water away and mix what remains with formula/breastmilk (whatever you're using) then use a nurofen syringe (which has a nice wide opening so the grains don't get stuck, regular medicine syringes don't work) and syring into LO's mouth, then give formula/breastmilk as normal.
Now LO is a bit older we still dissolve the tablet in water and pour off the excess water to just leave the gritty/grainy bits then I mix with a couple of teaspoons of apple or pear puree and feed it to LO on a spoon.
Its really important not to crush the tablet because that affects how they work - its designed to work as little grainy bits and not as a fine powder. Some pharmacies will make it up into a suspension but it is very pricey and has a pretty short shelf life which is why it isn't done very often - good luck getting it done on the NHS!!
Hope that helps.

We have the tablets, LO has been on it since around 7 weeks old.

We soften the tablet in a few drops of water (literally 2-3ml or less), crush it (but not completely to a powder, just so that it's in little teeny soft parts) and then mix with half a teaspoon of pear puree. We've been doing this since she started as it was just impossible to get into her any other way.

It can't be given with milk as milk is an antacid and stops omeprazole working. It must be fruit juice/puree, water or yoghurt. It also has to be given 30mins before a feed on an empty stomach for it to be effective xx

Pop it in a teaspoon of boiling water from the kettle, the tablet opens up. Leave to cool and syringe

It is expensive but I got a drug plan for Samantha from the government so all we pay for is the crushing and mixing apparently from now on. I could never be bothered to do it myself lol. I'd not have the patience. Plus it changes the taste of her formula in liquid form. She's on 3mg. I have to split the dose in 2 feeds because she will not take her bottle if the full 3mg is in it. Stuff tastes like crap apparently.

Thats interesting, I didnt know that! The problem I have with that is that its liquid suspension that I have and needs to be kept in the fridge. As its so cold, it hits his little tummy and he throws it back up! SO I have been feeding him milk and then the drug with a syringe. Maybe I should re think this then...

Please can I calrify a few points, can I mix it with formula as LO hates the taste with water and screams blue murder and just cant wait 30mins for his formula to take the taste away? Also, does putting it in boiled water make it less effective? Just read a few conflicting posts so Im confused.. thanks for the tips x

yep you can mix it in with the formula but like isaid it changes the taste of the formula so best bet is to do what i did and split it between 2 feeds so they don't notioce it's there. Samantha will not touch her bottle when it the full 3mg is put in her formula. I have to split it 1.5 at 9pm and 1.5 at midnight. The pharmacist said it changes the taste and it's darn awful for them to take in formula. But yes ut is perfectly safe. I don't know about bpoiling the pill to soften it up though. I have samanthas formula pretty warm to eat so it gets heated up... hmmm call the pharmacy and ask maybe?
