How to make sure you get to the tree before the kids...

Here's one we have found to be a bit tricky lol.

Last year we had to make sure we locked the living room door and then in the morning.. of course they were there first.. but I like to have the lights on etc so when you open the door they get the whole WOW factor so we had to sneak in and it was all a bit awkward with the kids waiting in the hall lol.

Tips to make this easier anyone?

I guess its mean but tell them that 7am or whatever you decide is the time they are allowed to leave their bedrooms? That way you can get done what ever you want? If they try going down before 7am they have to wait even longer to open presents?

Just an idea lol I dont have that problem stair gates hold kyle back lol

We used to have the 7 am rule!... might try to teach ds1 to tell the time before xmas!! I was thinking of putting stockings in their room too to give them an early treat.. although I love them hanging on the fireplace... hmm!

Put your Christmas lights on a timer on Christmas eve so they go on at 6.30am or something? I have time to go downstairs as Hallie isn't allowed downstairs until we all go together & he takes about 10 minutes to even open both his eyes so I send her in to bounce on him while I go down.

my mom and dad use to tell us that we couldnt get up before 7 and once we were up we would all go climb in bed with them and our rule was that my dad had to go downstairs first to set the video camera up (and he would always make a big show of needing to brush his teeth first and have some coffee and ten million other things to keep us waiting ) then when he called us we were allowed to all come running down the stairs. (up until we could tell time my mom would say we couldnt get out of bed until she came to get us)

My friends parents told them if they got out of their beds before the street lights went off, Santa would know and their presents would disappear! xx

I love the lights on a timer idea.... can't believe I didn't think of that myself
