I have heard so many different people saying different things, some people saying you should do this and you shouldn't do that.. So what I'm wondering is what is YOUR bottle routine? My friend told me she sterilises her bottles at night, boils the kettle and leaves water to cool for 30 mins, fills up enough bottles for night and the next day and leaves them in the fridge and adds the powder/heats them when they're needed. Others have told me you can't put it in the fridge and they have to be made as and when needed.. Whereas others have said they made up the feed with the powder and put that in the fridge? Aaah so confused

i always have one bottle of cool boiled water ready in advance so i dont have to wait when baby is hungry. I boil the kettle then fill one/two bottles and leave to cool. I don't put it in the fridge...

once LO is ready for feed i just add the powder and shake/stir... i don't heat them or anything. its so straight forward. Means when i am out and about i have one or two bottles in my bag and i have a powder dispenser.... dont have to faff about in restaurants etc asking them to heat anything !x

People do different things - when I was little my mum made the bottles up for the next 24 hours. Personally now my LO is 13 wks old so I can predict when he;ll feed so I make them fresh. However overnight bottles we make at bedtime - cool quickly with ice and then store at back of fridge - this isn't following the guidance but I know loads and loads of people who do this and I'll be honest I think they try to make formula feeding as difficult as possible to try and put people off but if you can;t breast feed you have no choice. When LO was younger we use to make the bottle for his next feed after his feed

our routine- she is on 3 bottle a day, for the sake of it only taking 10 minutes to make and cool we do them as we need them (fine if you know when they want them/in a routine!)

boil kettle, fill bottle add powder, put in the sink in cold water for about 10 mins to cool. done.

in the evening after last bottle we wash them all, rinse off, into steriliser, leave overnight and empty in the morning.
x

We make to order as I was told formula is not sterile so needs to be added to hot water >70 degrees. However, we didn't FF for the first 6 months and it is easy to know when she will want it now (not sure how we would have done the on demand feeding earlier on).

I make up 6 at a time and store in the fridge till needed, hav been doing it this way since 3 weeks x

We weren't sure about this at first either so found the following information from the world health org.

It is safest to prepare a fresh feed each time one is needed, and to consume immediately. This is because prepared feeds provide ideal conditions for bacteria to grow - especially when kept at room temperature. If you need to prepare feeds in advance for use later, they should be prepared in individual bottles, cooled quickly and placed in the refrigerator (no higher than 5oC). Throw away any refrigerated feed that has not been used within 24 hours.

Our formula states that we should only add formula to water that is body temperature or less so as not to kill the live cultures so we don't follow the higher than 70 degrees guideline. In fact noone in this country has ever heard of it!

So our routine is boil kettle, fill bottles, leave on side to cool (with lids loosely closed otherwise the bottles misshappen). When we need a feed we take a bottle put the powder in, shake.....put in the bottle warmer for 4ish minutes.....Done.....easy peasy.

I do my bottle washing/sterilising either in the morning or the evening after dinner. Depends how many I have/need for the day/night. I have 4 bottles and he has 5 feeds a day.

I go by the instructions on the box and works well for me. I sterilise my bottles and then heat some water in the kettle. I add the required water to the bottles once they've finished sterilising and allow them to get to 50 degrees c. I then add the formula and stir it with a clean spoon. I then leave them to cool down to room temp and pop them in the fridge. I then heat some water and pop the bottle into the hot water when needed. My midwife said this was fine and it's worked for us.

do what works would be my advice. Try one method (the one that seems like common sense to you) and then if it doesn't work, try another.

We used to make fresh feeds as per the guidelines with Earl. this lasted about a week, then after burning his tongue in the night, and having a screaming child in my ear for 13 minutes trying to cool a bottle down under a tap, and wasting a whole bathful down the sink, I decided to premake. We have done this ever since. I make up 4-6 at a time depending on the time of day and what we have going on. I then cool them in the sink (in standing water lol) and pop them in the fridge once cool. I then either warm them in a jug of water or pop them in the microwave for 30 seconds to warm up when needed. Much better  Eddy has up to 8 bottles a day, so I don't think it would work any other way.

We make a batch up at a time. We boil kettle, fill bottles with water, put lids on and leave to cool. Formula is added when needed to the bottles and then heated up for a few mins.

She does take them cold too if needed but prefers them warm.

I never use a bottle that has had formula added and is over 2 hours old

You shouldn’t put powder into boiling hot water as it scolds alot of the nutrition away.

I do following with 5 bottles:

Add 90mils of fresh boiled water into each bottle.
Put in fridge.
Grab a bottle when it's needed.
Pour boiling water into it,
Add powder - rdy to drink.

Quick and easy :)
