So my car seat obviously faces the back of the chairs like all for new born!
How do you see baby when you are driving along to make sure they are ok? I have seen mirrors that you buy but they are for you on the front windcreen and not for baby. I am also worry if I put a mirror there that the sun will stream in and hurt the babys eyes.

For my first I had her RF in the front passenger seat. When my oldest is in nursery I will have baby in the front of my car again, but when out as a family in my husbands car I will have both girls RF in the back but I have bought an adjustable mirror so I can see them both. Is there any reason you cant put your LO in the front with the air bag turned off?

We have a mirror that attaches to the back seat, it has to be angled just so otherwise you get a great view of the back of your seat;

We have a mirror too, thank God...because I once when he was REALLY tiny left a plastic bag in the car. DH was driving LO, and DH always checks the mirror. Looks back, and bag blew on TOP of lo's face! He turned around and grabbed it off.

They have these little mirrors you put on the head rest so you just look back in your rear view mirror and look into that little mirror. Thats what i had with my kiddos.

we also have a mirror that attaches to the back of the seat so we can see baby from the front

I agree with the mirror thing. Im not getting one... I might do when LO is here though
Also when im on my own with LO ill just put him in front seat with airbags off so i could keep an eye on him if needed. :flower:

I really like the mirror you attach to the seat and can adjust your rearview mirror to see baby. I also put baby in the seat to the opposite side of the car from the driver seat so I can reach baby and take a peek if I stop the car of course. :) I'm just not comfortable putting my LO's in the front seat even with the air bag turned off...don't trust it. In the US it is illegal for a child under the age of 12 yrs to ride in the front seat unless there is not a back seat such as a truck or two seater car. I just don't feel safe with LO's up front although it is nerve wracking not being able to see a newborn in the carseat while driving along.

In the US it's illegal to have baby in the front of the car... I'm going to buy one of the mirror things and the window screen so that the sun doesn't reflect in the mirror, also putting baby on the opposite side can really help too.

OP since your in the UK is your car able to turn the passenger air bag xx

I'm in Canada and its illegal to put kids in the front seat here too. I don't use a mirror because if I'm in a crash it will probably hit him in the face. 99.9% of the time he's sleeping, if I want to see if he's ok, I just reach back and put my hand on top of his head... Sounds morbid but I'm checking to see if he's still warm and moving.

pull over somewhere safe, and check on your baby if you feel the need.

any objects in the back of the car, including attached mirrors are dangerous for your baby should you be in an accident.

They can also be a distraction, not to mention a lot of people then move their rear-veiw mirror to see the baby mirror...the rear view mirror is not intended for that purpose and you may not be able to see out of your back window correctly if you reposition it so you can see into your babys mirror.

I agree with the pp, pull over. Using mirrors or visually checking on a child while driving is too dangerous and is driving with undue care and attention imo.

I put baby on opposite side and have a plastic mirror thing like most others but don't obsessively check on baby, just when he/she coughs or when I stop at lights I'll look round. The one I had last time was plastic and quite small, just attached to the rear seat head rest so no danger! You have to physically look over to check which is good as it stops the constant checking that I guess we'd all be tempted to do, so only for when you're stationary really, so that you don't have to get out of the car.
I will also have baby in front rear facing with airbags off for first week unless I'm driving with hubby or going on roads plus 30mph x

I was busy driving. No need to see the baby.
They do sell mirrors you can put on the headrest of the backseat and angle so that you can catch a glimpse in your rear view mirror, but I never saw the point in them.

I think it's a personal preference. I got a mirror for my car, one that sits in the middle of the back seat, and you look at it through the rear view mirror. My husband said he did not want one for his truck though, so we didn't get one. I think it would be nice to be able to see the baby if you need to, but I can definitely see both sides of the argument here. I do agree, however, that it's best not to have baby in the front seat. DH needed a new car over the summer, and he wanted a truck, so we spent extra time to try to find one with an exteded cab big enough for the car seat in the back. I even took the seat to the dealership (and yes, they laughed at me) but I feel better with baby in some sort of back seat. It worked out for us in the end bc we ended up getting a great deal on a used truck, and the back seat is just as big as it is in my car.

We'll be putting the car seat in the center of my Honda Accord, we have a "Brica Baby In Sight" mirror (It's not made from glass) that is big enough to get a good look, I hope. On the way home from the hospital I will sit in the back with her, OH can drive us chauffeur style! Hahha.

Our new home is over an hour from the hospital and it will be her 1st car ride. I would freak out not being back there I think.

I agree, rear view mirror is for driving, not baby watching. My car (Honda Pilot) actually has a flip down mirror in the center front, specifically for viewing children in the rear seats. It can be used for the driver or passenger. You should still pull over if you are alone with baby....so much safer!

I never felt the need for one with either of my kids to be honest, babies sleep most the time in the car! Anything that can become loose is considered a hazard too!
If in the U.K., you need to inform your insurance company if you plan on switching the air bags off (all if you're driving for the first 6 weeks after section) and obviously if you've switched them off, have an accident and haven't informed them, your insurance is worthless!! Xx
