Hello HSG survivors!
Can you please help? I have left my first ever gynaecology appointment more confused than when I went in. In summary I've been asked to ring up to book in a HSG after my next period. I then have an appointment with the consultant to go over results later that month. I then have an ultra sound vaginal exam thing booked for two days after this. What a stupid way around that is! I rang up and tried to get the consultant appointment after both procedures but was told that if I cancel that appointment they can't get me another one for a month and a half after - so I'd be waiting that long to find out what's wrong with me!! Great Not sure what to do now. Has anyone heard of success stories After HSG or got any first hand experience of these things taking so flipping long to get investigated? Has anybody gone private because of this and if so how much does it cost and is it any quicker? I am slowly losing the will
Thank you for any help you can give me
FYI - husband SA perfect, trying for first baby for well over a year, periods between 30-36 days.

Is there any way you can change the ultrasound date- you might be able to get a cancellation? We had our first hospital appt in April and 2nd one in June after the HSG and ultrasound. Quite a few ladies have had private scans which seem to cost around £150-£200 from what I remember. GL x

I had my trans vaginal ultrasound first... The lady that did it told me the results there and then, ovaries looking healthy and uterus looking normal, with good size follicles.... Next was the HSG... Which was nowere near as painful as I though, couple of cramps! Like minor period pains, I also got the results there and then, the dye went through my tubes so apparently their not blocked, but the lady doing that said she would still need to confirm it, I had the HSG on 16 aug 2011, and I have a follow up to discuss all of my tests on the 1st sep! So don't worry! You will get an idea of how things are the day u have your tests!!! Good luck xxXx

Thank you all for your support and advice. I am a bit nervous about the HSG but I think you've helped to put my mind at rest a bit. Thank you. It's just so annoying having to wait a month in-between each appointment. It took us a month from being told hubby needed a SA to actually being able to book one too. Maybe our hospital are just a bit slow at stuff. Also at my GYN appointment the consultant seemed more interested in signing me up to his clinical trial of clomid Vs femara for after my tests that he came across as very cold and uncaring. Not good when you feel like crap because hubby's sperm is good and it's all my fault things are taking ages. I am still trying to keep a sense of humour in all of this and said to hubby last night that if he were a king he'd have had me beheaded by now for not producing children! Juststarted reading a book by Isla McGuckin called Pink for a Girl. It's like reading a page of my own diary. Recommended reading.
Good Luck to all and thank you again x

That's funny what ur hubby said! Even if it is a little cheeky! Don't be persuaded to sign up to anything you don't want to... You pay taxes... This is YOUR fertility investigation and you set the terms! The NHS is on its ass!! Good luck with everything you will be fine...

I've been through the same test over the last few monts, its taken since March to get them all done, finally had the consultation last week to discuss results all of which were fine... try and distract yourself, the time will fly by and at least you know you are now on track for some action.

I won't lie the HSG was very unpleasent, but its really quick, and i think its worth it for that extra fertility... I am on my first cycle post hsg, hoping for a BFP... i read 30% of women get a BFP following the HSG procedure.

I too am trying to conceive number for 1 for over a year so in the same boat. wishing you lots of luck and baby dust

Sohie x

Sorry for being a little thick here, but what exactly is a HSG & what do they do?

I've just been referred to a FS & currently waiting for them to contact me so I'm not too sure what everything is at the moment.

Thanks girls

xx

Lisa40.. A HSG is where they insert dye that can bee seen by xray, into your uterus to check if the fallopion tubes are blocked, xrays are taken as the dye fills your uterus and travels through the fallopion tubes, if the dye spills out at the ends, your fallopian tubes are clear, if it dosent, you may have blocked tubes and futher tests will be done. Hope this helps xxxxx

That's great, thanks for the info, is that the same as a lap & dye then? Or is that something else? x

Its not the same as a lap and dye hun... A lap and dye would be a closer look at your tubes if they are blocked... Don't quote me on this as I'm not 100% but I think that's what a lap and dye is xxxx

Ok thanks,

I'm sure I'll get to ask all of these questions when I finally get my appt, but knowing what to ask is half the battle haha!

Thanks very much

Write down on a pad questions you want to ask! And make sure u ask all of them! I went to my appt unorganised and came away with many unanswered questions!!! Good luck! Xxx

A lap and dye stands for laparoscopy and dye, you need to be put to sleep for this, they put a camera into your belly button and have a look into your pelvis at your ovaries & tubes and squirt the dye in through your cervix and see if it spills out. If they suspect a problem eg endo/cysts then they opt for lap & dye first then do hsg after if there isnt any spill. If no symptoms of cysts/endo then they do hsg as less risky as no anaesthetic needed x

Thanks for the detailed explanation. It's much clearer now :happydance:
