Hey ladies:) So i recently had an apt with my Gyno and she gave me the following options:
1. Take provera (10days) if my cycle reaches CD40(or wait for natural AF), then call and set up an HSG.
2. Or Skip the HSG and Start clomid next cycle.

My DH has his SA on Jan 6th, we aren't to worried about him as I have PCOS and it's most likely just me that is the issue.

When I asked her if I could do the HSG and clomid the same cycle she said I could... But I'm wondering why she didn't give that as an option first off??

What day can I expect to do my HSG? She told me to call on CD 1 and make an apt... but If its not until CD 6 would that interfere with the clomid, which I'm to take CD 3-7. Do you think having and HSG and Clomid in one cycle will give me a better chance? I realize i should have asked her this question lol. My brain was on over load while I was in the apt and I did ask most of the questions i had! I'm open to any and all comments! I need help:thumbup: I should mention I'm also taking 1000mg of Metformin a day.

Hey, I didn't want to read and run but unfortunately I can not help you. I have not had a HSG nor am I scheduled to have one, therefore I don't know anything about them. Lol.

Can you call your Doc's office and ask them about it? You might not have been given that option because it may prove that it doesn't improve the success rate or it might decrease it slightly. No idea though, just speculating. I would call the office and ask them.

Good luck. X

What ever route you choose I strongly suggest that you do the HSG as this gives you valuable information. This will tell you if your tubes are open and therefore if there is even a point to clomid. Even small, loose blockages can sometimes be cleared by the pressure of an HSG. I believe the HSG is done about cd10 because it has to be before you ovulate and at least X amount of days after AF. I don't know that clomid and HSG together will give you a better chance but I definitely don't think it will hurt. Some actually suggest that you are more fertile after a HSG, but I dunno, that theory didn't work for me. Also, HSG is only dye that they inject through a catheter, through your cervix, of which they then take x-rays, so I don't see how that would interfere with clomid. If your doc gave you the go ahead, and thinks it's a valid option then go for it. Are you planning on doing the HSG and/or round of clomid before you get the SA results?

Princess Lou: Thanks for the message:) I totally could call the Dr. office, I just want to find out as much as I can on my own first. Not all Doctor's are the same, and hearing other woman's experience's may trigger my mind for other questions to ask! :flower:

Phoenixrose:
Thanks for the reply! I totally will get the HSG first:) Your right it makes the most sense to do it. FX'd there is no blockages... what if there are? We may end up doing the HSG/Clomid before we get the results from his SA. It all depends on when we AF show's up... I wonder how long it will take to get the results back.... i hope not too long.

I can't believe I spent 30 minutes with my Dr. and never asked these questions...

That always happens to me. I always think of what I want to ask after I've processed all the information. I always got my results back pretty quickly but I live in the US and a lot of you ladies overseas really seam to have to wait a while sometimes. Are they just going to give you clomid or will you be monitored by scans, etc. also? If they're are blockages...not quite sure. I think you may need a laparoscopy. There are some ladies in here though that have blocked tubes and I think they couldn't do anything about it...but don't worry. I had an HSG and it all came back good.

Hey! My doctor said the same thing to me so I went for the HSG and started clomid 2 cycles later... anyways the reasoning for it was that the HSG alone can increase your fertility by a lot just by having the "pipes cleaned" haha.. and putting clomid on top of that will increase it even more onviously, but also increases your chances of a multiple pregnancy because you are super stimulating your ovaries plus with freshly cleaned tubes there is more room for more to get through.. anyways clinics and RE's try to decrease the numers of multiple pregnancies due to the high risk factor of them. I listened mainly because I am a labor and delivery nurse and I have seen the high risk stuff first hand and decided that if twins happened I would cope but that I wasn't going to do something that would knowingly increase the chances of it.

Hope this helps!!

Hey Phoenixrose:) I'm actually Canadian!! But I know it will take at least a couple weeks, as the SA is "free"... If given the option I think i would pay just to have the results back quicker! My Gyno never said anything about scans etc... So we will try! I'm so nervous to get this done... Not the discomfort or anything... just the results. Can I ask why you had to have a lap done? I was also curious as to what PCO is?? Hoe your having a great day!

You are a rockstar! Thanks so much for the info! December usually flies by so quickly for me, but with the HSG and SA coming up next cycle (Jan) things could not be moving any slower. I'm a Canadian too!:flower:

Sorry I keep asking questions about the SA, it's just that here in the US and with our insurance we are out of pocket for all fertility treatments. They paid for diagnosing but once we started treatment it was all us. So for me I would have waited to start treatment until after all tests were done, but if it was part of my insurance I would have picked a different route. That's why I chose to do a LAP. We had already had all bloods done, the HSG, SA and tried for another 6 months after that and still nothing so we were given the option of LAP or clomid with IUI and we chose the LAP because I didn't want to spend all that money on fertility treatments without knowing that everything on the inside was fine. They actually found mild endo and a slightly kinked down tube (although it was probably fine). Now with my new FS, he found that I have polycystic ovaries (PCO), as I have the "string of pearls" but I do not have any of the symptoms of PCOS and all my blood work is within normal limits.
