So AF arrived today and I'm suppose to wait until after she's gone to schedule whats to be my 1st official appointment to see just what exactly is wrong with me . I'm waiting to schedule an appointment to get an HSG test and a Trans-vaginal Ultrasound. I was told to administer on myself a Fleet Enema and a Water Douche one hour before my appointment. I've never done either or and I'm really freaking out because I'm reading of so many other peoples experiences on the web that have been horrifically painful. Have any of you ladies gone thru any one of these procedures? What was your experience like?? How did you prepare beforehand? And did it result in a :bfp:?

Any insight on the Fleet Enema and Water Douche?? Are there any brands you guys recommend?? This all seems so scary to me right now, and I need buddies. Please share your stories!

Hi

I had a trans-vaginal ultrasound which was fine, my mum told me before I went that it feels a bit like having a car's gear stick up there and it totally does! Much smaller than that though!

I would be really interested in hearing people's HSG experiences too, as I think that will be the next thing for me to have in the new year...

Hi Ladies,

I started various tests at end of Oct. Ive had numerous transvaginal ultrasounds done. They are not a problem, slight uncomfy when they are positioning the wand vaginally in order to take the right pictures.

I had an HSG on Nov 1st. The only prep I was required to do was take 2 advils 1 hour prior to help with cramping. The procedure itself is super quick and for me I found it very uncomfortable (almost painful but not quite)...its so quick that once the discomfort/pain registers you're done.

In speaking to several patients that were before/after me for HSG and what I've read online..pain ranges for people depending on if tubes are blocked or not.

Thankfully, my tubes are clear so the I had no cramping during the procedure.

I had bit of pms cramping later in the day.

Lastly, take a pad bc the dye will leak out afterwards.

Thanks for your reply! yes, this sounds similar to the things I've been :coffee: reading about it. Pretty freaking scary, but hey

Thanks for your reply! If you don't mind me asking..how long were you TTC before having yours done? With the HSG I've heard the same..that the pain ranges depending on whether you have blocked tubes or not. However, I was wondering...Would The Size of Your Cervix Play A Role In The Discomfort of Things?? And I think I read somewhere that the closer you are to O the better it would be to have the HSG done. I think a woman's cervix expands alittle more during this time, making it easier for the speculum to do its thing. Do you know anything about this? And is it ok to TTC again right after the procedure?..what did your Dr. tell you after your procedure? Cuz I'm thinking, Would it have any affect on my eggs for that month???..hmmmmm

6-8 months..but like i said i have cysts and polyps so really pushed to get things going.

Yes, if you cervix is small/tight it MAY cause you to feel the catheter more. Catheter is inserted into your cervix to send the dye to your tubes.

My dr asked for hsg to happen day 6-12, its possible closer to day 12 helps i had mine on day11.

I was not in any mood to ttc that day, cramps..just uncomfy...cervix felt tender...but we did the next night and dr said that was fine.

It is not sppsd to impact eggs i have read that it helps with bfps that cycle and the next 2-3...bc the dye clears up the tubes

I know exactly what you mean about "getting things going". 6-12 days is what I think is ideal too. But I'm scheduled for mine on CD17 . I'm almost 100% sure I'll be O then. So now idk wut to do.

When do you normally ovulate? That's weird that it would be after O, bc I actually had to sign on a form when i checked in that i am not pregnant at this time. i was on day 11 for HSG, i O'd on day 16 that cycle.

hi. i am going for HSG on Wed. i ll b on cd 14 n i normally ovulate on that day but they asked me to use protection this month to make sure that i wont b preg.
i think we ll try to do it unprotected after HSG if i would feel good.

I normally O between CD17-20, and my appointment is on CD17..So thats why I'm concerned. I'm almost certain I will be O if not that same day, then the day before or the day after. With the Thanksgiving holiday nxt wk. This place will be closed from Wed-Sun. And they could Only schedule me for that day. And around my way, this is the best place to get it done. I'm just worried..what if I O that same day..should I go thru with it? I'm so afraid I'll miss my window, or somehow disrupt the egg If I do go thru with the procedure during O. But then I'm afraid to let another month pass by. What do you guys think I should do??

Hi :flower:

Sounds like your in the same boat. I'm surprised they're not saying to go in earlier right?? I so wish I could go in now or in 2 days, as AF left today. I wish you much luck on your exam!!! and please..please come back and let us know how things went. What directions were you given? Like were you told to administer a Fleet Enema & Douche on yourself? Cuz the first location I went to told me I had to, but the new location I've decided to go with didn't tell me to do so. So now i'm wondering about that.

yes i m in the same boat hun and i also wanted to go earlier but they gave me a date after 2 weeks from 1st day of my cycle. i booked HSG last cycle too but when i went there they asked me if i've used protection that month or is there any chance that i might be pregnant and i said i dont know coz i was'nt using any kind of protection so they did'nt do the procedure and ask me to come back nxt cycle.
No they did'nt ask me for Fleet Enema & Douche.
i ll let u know soon how it went and how painful (hopefully not) it was..
wish u all the best for ur exam n baby dust to u :)

I'm assuming you're getting an HSG because you haven't gotten a BFP yet and they want to make sure your tubes are clear. At this point, I think it's more important to get the HSG - and the all clear - rather then catch O this cycle. What if there is an issue *hopefully not* ...and you delay the test to try to catch O..when in fact the test is in your best interest to get any issues fixed so you CAN O successfully...also...you may not O on the 17th...which means make sure you BD 18, 19, 20!

goodluck.

@Miriam: They shouldv'e told you not to BD until after the procedure then right? Thats what I'm discovering too. Alot of these places do things differently and don't explain things thoroughly. Which is why I've been looking around so much and finally found one I liked. And I somehow still feel alittle confused..but i dont wanna call again and have them think I'm a crazy lady lol. Thankyou and I really hope the same for you.

@BreakingDawn: Thankyou :)
I actually called again today and was praying someone else would pick up the phone and help me. Well luckily I spoke to another receptionist and she indeed agreed with me. She said that being that my cycle has finished, it is ok to do it 2 days from today, and that I didin't have to wait until CD17. Only scary thing now is that I think I might have a tighter cervix for the procedure, because I'm so far from O. And a tighter cervix could mean a more painful procedure..IDK. But I'm now scheduled for it for Wed. at 2pm. I will follow up with you guys afterwards. thanks again.

Thankyou ladies..:dust::dust:

Ok, so my test is for tomorrow and I can't help but do a little research on what to expect. I'm alittle scared and my anxiety is slowly getting the best of me. I came across so much info on the internet, but still cant come to a conclusion about this. Does anyone know the difference between the three procedures listed BELOW?? AND which of the three is probably best to do and why?? I read somewhere that some are not as invasive as others, but really wouldn't it be true that..the more invasive the procedure is, the better the dr. can assess whats wrong with you. Tomorrow I'm getting a "Sonohysterosalpingogram" I believe. This procedure does not use ink from what i understand. I was always under the impression that the best one to have done was the HSG test which DOES use ink. Is this right or wrong?? Its bad enough to have to go in and get one test..having two or three done would be out of this world.

A "Hysterosalpingogram"

A "Sonohysterosalpingogram"

and

A "Saline Sonogram"

A "Hysterosalpingogram"

A "Sonohysterosalpingogram"

and

A "Saline Sonogram"

Ive had the first 2 tests done.

Hysterosalpingpgram (hsg) - is the one we've been talking about the cather in cervix to pass dye thru the tubes while an xray machine is focused on your pelvis

Sonohysterosalpingogram - catheter in cervix....vaginal ultrasounnd inserted, saline is pushed into uterus to inflate so that the u/s wand can take pics of uterus lining

Saline sonogram - have not had this done, from what ive read its similar to the 2nd one but instead of vaginal u/s irs a regular external u/s. im not sure why this woukd be done instead of vaginal...i would think that takes better pics

I see, THANK YOU so much. which of those two did you have first? why did you end up having to do two if you don't mind me asking? Don't they both access the same the thing?? And which of the two would you say is better to do and why?

TIA

i had the HSG first and then the sonohystero 2nd - i don't htink it matters which one happens first.

Each test looks at different things:

the HSG flushes dye into your uterus and through your tubes, via xray the dr can watch the dye as it flows through your tubes. if there are any blocked tubes, or tubal issues it will be seen here because the dye will not pass through

the sonohystero fills the uterus up with saline (so it's not pushed through into the tube). once the uterus is "inflated" with saline the vaginal u/s can take pics of the uterus lining..look for any abnormalities - polyps, fibroids, uterus strucutre issues

i had the hsg to make sure my tubes were clear bc i've had cysts removed and issues can arise (scar tissue, torque/pulling on tubes etc)
i had the sonohystero bc i've had uterine polyp

I see. therefore, I'm guessing they'll do the sonohystero on me and IF they don't find anything, then perhaps they'll have me get an HSG done to check my tubes. Because a Sonohystero does not thoroughly check your tubes for blockage then, correct? How many mgs. or what brand of pain killer did you take if any before your procedures?

Correct, sonohystero only looks at the uterus. HSG checks the tubes.

Generally, if you have issues getting a bfp - HSG is first because no BFP at all could mean tube blockage. If you are getting BFPs but then m/c, then perhaps sonohystero first, because tubes are good if you're getting BFP but perhaps issue with uterus lining.

I took 2 x 200 mg advil...i took one pill 1 hour before and the other pill 30 min before...just to spread it out, i didn't want to take both 1 hour before and then they wear off by the time i get in there....i found 2 x 200 mg sufficient, however i did not have any blockage in tubes and i have read that there is more cramping/pain if tubes are blocked
