I have my HSG tomorrow and I am very nervous because I have read that it hurts. It will be worth getting some answers. Today is cycle day 7. I am hoping to get a ttc buddy to go through this with. I know it will be a long month because I have my hopes up that the HSG will help me get pregnant by cleaning everything out!

Here is a little about me. My husband and I have been trying for 22 cycles. I have never taken BC before. I have done the blood tests and DH has done a SA and everything came out normal. I am 24 and he is 27. I have never gotten a BFP before. It has been a struggle for me emotionally. I am a positive person but it gets harder and harder everything month. I love reading everyone's posts on here and it helps hearing all your stories and knowing that I am not alone in all this.

Anyone have any advise about the hsg? :flower:

Cantwait, just take 800mg of ibuprofen 1 hr before the procedure and then another one 30 minutes before. Or, your doctor should prescribed you a pain killer and antibiotics. Don't worry. It doesn't hurt that bad. It just feels like a bad cramp. Good luck with the HSG! Hope you'll figure out what's not working.

Hey, I had mine last Friday. Take some ib or aleve as the last poster said. The pain is extremely variable from woman to woman. Some have no pain at all, some have bad cramps, some have severe pain. Mine was pretty bad, but I have a completely blocked tube that spasmed an hour after the procedure.

It's a quick test. Once the doctor gets there it takes about 10-15 minutes AND they usually give you the results while you're there. I even got to watch mine on the monitor. I hope it gives you some answers. Even if both tubes are blocked (not likely at your age), there's a good chance a lap will help. I'm having mine in a couple of weeks.

My doctor didn't give me any advise or pain meds and antibiotics for the hsg. I'm thinking I need to find a new doctor. I have never grew fond of her. I will take IB before and hope that it helps. Thank you both for the advise and kind words! You have helped me relax a little bit which I needed. What is a lap? For some reason I was under the impression it was the same as an HSG. I will keep you posted on what happens today. Hopefully they will let me watch and I can get the results today.

Can'twait, I suggest you call your doctor and ask for antibiotic!! I had to take 3-4 before the procedure to prevent infection.

Lap is a minor surgery (then again..any type of surgery can't be considered as minor :p) to see what's wrong with your uterus, tubes, etc.

You will be able to see it for sure since you are there when they are doing the HSG. The doctor will turn the monitor toward your way and he/she should tell you what is the result. If not, ask. Worse come worse they'll tell you that your doctor will talk to you. But I think most ladies can see and get the result on the same day.

Good luck! Relax and don't worry. It really feels like you ate something really bad and having a really bad stomach cramp. At least that's how I felt and I had blocked tubes. So, if you don't have blocked tubes, you might not even fell anything at all.

cantwait, I didn't have any antibiotics. Most tell you take some pain meds before, but whether or not you get antibiotics depends on the doctor. Frankly, they used so much iodine beforehand and the contrast dye is iodine based, that I don't think the risk of infection is very high.

Lap = laparoscopy. The doctor puts you to sleep, cuts a 1 inch hole in your navel, and uses a miniature camera to look around at your tubes, uterus, etc, and usually does any repairs that need to be made at the same time. They sometimes also remove endo or pelvic adhesions and do reconstructive surgery the same way. A friend of mine had a major uterine septum removed and her uterus reconstructed through laparoscopy (done by the same doctor who's doing my lap, so I know he's good).

I didn't have any antibiotics either and was totally fine - unfortunately my HSG was inconclusive as they couldn't get the catheter in properly and so the dye wouldn't go through my right tube but I just had a lap done last week and everything was fine, although I'm still not feeling great following the lap.

I hope everything went well for you today and you have some answers :)

I just got home from the HSG. I was a little upset my DH couldn't be in the room with me. The test was very painful for me. The doctor had a hard time getting the catheter in so because it was so long and narrow, I believe he said it was due to fibrosis. He said right away that it was most likely the reason for not being able to conceive. He pushed through it (which was very painful) and pushed the dye through. The dye was painful as well but he said both tubes were clear. I am very happy with the results. He said the chances are good that the HSG cleared everything out. I have very high hopes for this cycle! I have cramps still but they aren't too bad. Laying down on the couch and my DH is making me dinner now! Thank you all for your advise. What cycle day is everyone on??

Cantwait, sounds good. Hopefully you'll get your bfp this cycle. We are NTNP. Waiting for our IVF appointment. So just relaxing for now :)

Cantwait, not sure when. Just had a referral for the specialist on Tuesday. So might be another month or so

I hope you get your BFP this month cantwait! I have my lap on the 23rd, and we'll make our decision about how to proceed after that.
