I've not had it done before but I read that you should take 2 ibuprofen before and 2 after to numb you a little.
Fingers crossed for you sweetie xx

Here is an old thread I did asking the same question... it is really helpful, i talk about how my HSG went and lots of other girls share their experiences. I hope this helps!!:flower:

I had mines last month, I took 2 ibuprofen & 2 paracematol. When I went in I was given 2 hospital gowns & told to keep underwear handy for afterwards. Dh wasn't allowed in, whole thing took 20 mins and that included doc having difficulty inserting tube into my cervix. It wasn't sore for me at all, just a bit uncomfortable. I bled & cramped heavily for about 15 mins then I had light bleeding & cramping for a few days after it.

My procedure went like this- doc used speculum then 'washed' away any cervical fluids with sterile water. He then inserts fine tube into my cervix (with some difficulty) which felt a wee bit sharp & uncomfortable. Then he brought a huge round xray machine down to my tummy & used a dosing syringe to push the oil based 'dye' which was colourless) through the tube & took about 8 xrays constantly trying to push more dye through. He told me there and then what he could see (that one tube was blocked & one open) and then he removed everything and gave me an antibiotic suppository to prevent infection (that was actually the most uncomfortable part lol). Then I was given my clothes & a sanitary towel (maternity sized lol) and I got dressed and went for a cuppa. At my follow up appt 2 weeks later my FS told me something slightly different, so even if they do tell you on the day, remember they take a longer look at it layer and their diagnosis might change).

Just relax the best you can, tell the staff if it gets sore for you and they will stop and take painkillers beforehand.

Good luck! I hope you get good news! Xxx

I had mine on the 9th of this month and it wasn't all that bad. I took 4 advils about an hour before the procedure. My dh couldn't come in with me so he waited in the waiting room. I basically got into a hospital gown and the doc started the procedure. It was uncomfortable when he was cleaning the cervix and getting the catheter in, but nothing painful. I only felt strong menstrual like cramps when he inflated the balloon and that lasted for like 10 seconds. All in all it wasn't painful for me....it was the next 10 days that were horrible. I had to take antibiotics for a possible infection, I had cramps on my sides and then the antibiotics gave me a yeast infection.

Good luck and hopefully your results will come back great! Just remember to take deep breathes and it will be over before you know it!!!

Hello :)

well i had it done and it wasnt that bad all. i was told before hand i had a heart shaped uterus but from the pics yesterday from the HSG i dont my uterus is normal and both tubes are clear which i'm happy about. got to wait for all other results and go from there now.

today tho i have got such pain pains in my uterus there was a few air bubbles when she was putting dye in. i'm finding it painful to walk from the bedroom to the kitchen so i think a day in bed with the doggy and my lappy is in order.

because we had been to the hospital and always come away with bad results yesterday we were able to come away with a good and positive result that i'm NORMAL for a change so we went to KFC to celebrate :)

is it normal to have these pains i feel like i need to let wind alot too xxx

I had mine done on the 12th of this month and forgot to take my advil before hand. It wasn't painful at all, just a little discomfort when they first went in. The contrast was slow to flow through my left tube but once I turned on my side if cleared out any gunk and flowed on through. I didn't have any blockages which I have heard is where the pain comes in to play. So it is kind of hard to say how it will go for you. The worst part was them wiping the iodine all over my private area and then the clean up afterwards. Would have been nice to jump in a shower. Expect some bleeding for a couple of days. I spotted that day and for about 2 additional days. Try and relax, it's not that bad, plus I kept telling myself that it was a "power wash" of my insides and would in the long run help me to get pregnant. I will know in a couple of days if it helped us this month.

Did you have the test done yet? How did it go?
