Hey Girls,

I'm off to see the gynea again after the cock up he's made and i'm going to stress that i want to be checked completely before continuing to ttc. i'm worried there may be damage or blockage caused by the mess he's made.

I'm not really sure of the difference between and HSG and a Lap and dye. Has anyone else had either of these?
What should i be asking for?

HSG is a hysterosaplingogram where while you are awake, they shoot dye up your woo-hoo and with x-ray type machinery, they have a good look at your uterus and tubes (inside of them).

A lap is a laprscopic procedure where usually you are under a general and they can see the outside of your uterus, inside, check out your ovaries too. I think the "dye" part of that is the HSG with it???? I haven't had a "lap & dye" but I *think* that's what it means.

what do you think would be best given my situation?

Well, if I had a choice for myself, I would go for lap and dye, simply because you get them both out of the way. If you just get the HSG you might need the lap later, KWIM? I am in that situation now.

ahh i see i'll push for that then see if i can have it over christmas
get ready for a new year with a BFP!!

I had a Lap & Dye recently. I agree with the other answers, A lap & dye is better because if they dont find any problem with the HSG, they have to do the Lap & Dye anyway. Plus with the Lap & dye u can get everything checked out in one go.

For me the major attraction of Lap & dye was that i wont feel anything since i wud be asleep :) But it is a little painful later on but nothing major.

Good Luck!

I spoke to a nurse who told me that a lap is the 'gold standard' of fertility testing - and she was at a private clinic that I rang about going private for a HSG - and she told me this and said to wait for the NHS lap - so if she was turning down money then it must be good.

I had the HSG, up to you really hun, maybe see what they think?
good luck

The way my Dr. put it was with the lap, if he found a problem then he was already in there so he could fix it...which turned out well for me as I had endo that had wrapped around my ovaries (but tubes were clear, so unsure if HSG would have shown anything). The recovery for lap & dye was not bad at all...had it done on Tues and took the rest of week off of work. But probably could have gone back sooner...

i am having the HSG done on tuesday but i heard that it is not 100% accurate so the lap and dye i don't think the diagnostic could be wrong since they are looking really "inside"...

Laparascopy is when they make 2 or 3 incisions in the belly and take a look of your ovaries tubs and uterus with a camera. Dye is when they push a blue dye through your tubes to make sure they are clear. It is more accurate but more invasive. I had both done. The HSG showed my right side was blocked but the lap and dye proved it was open. Good luck!

thanks girls, you've been a great help at least now on thursday i know what i'm talking about now so i can push for the right treatment. i need to make sure that the hyperstimulation hasn't damaged the tubes so sounds like the lap would be best.

gynea didn't monitor me on clomid and now i'm hyperstimulating.

my gynae said to be he prefers to do HSG's rather than laps, as its pain free and you can see just as much?obviously if something is noticed, then a lap is necessary, but i guess he made sense, that why go through a lap first incase theres nothing wrong
xx

I would highly recommend you have a lap and they do the dye while they're in there...you don't feel a thing and they can fix anything while they're in there. Just be sure to be VERY strong with the surgeon about what they're looking for. I had to have 3 laps by 3 different surgeons before they found my prob, so make sure they're super thorough!
