So what is everyone's experience with a HSG? I have to have one done this cycle and they hubby has to have a SA done. Did you guys drive yourself there or did you have someone drive you? My hubby doesn't drive so if I cannot drive I am going to have to arrange someone to take me. What do they do exactly during a HSG? I was sooo disappointed this month. I have been taking Clomid (50 mg). Well, this month it decided to stop working. Boo! I was a week late and got super excited only to discover that I wasn't pregnant but I did not even ovulated. Stupid! I better I find out something with all these test.

Hey jeoestreich.
If hubby and I don't concieve this month then we are having one scheduled for next month right after my cycle ends and before ovulation. I heard it's quite painful if you don't take the pain meds and vicodin the doctor normally prescribes before hand. My doctor recomended some one drive me and of course that's due to the medication I will be on and possible pain afterwards. I checked alot of success stories hoping to mostly see what the doctors found and discovered that alot of women actually concieved after the HSG test was done. I guess the dye flushed any blockage in the tubes and allowed for better sperm travel on some women. ALthough that's not what the procedure is actually for it still gives us hope for a chance even in just the procedure to concieve. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

You sound like me! I was so disappointed with taking clomid and no bfp that I demanded more tests. They ordered my HSG test and said I could drive myself but the dh drove me and I was glad because I got really car sick on the way home and vomited. I didn't think the test was super painful. I had worse side effects from the 2 antibiotics I had to take in preparation of the test. The test was kinda like a pap but with some cramps. I had both tubes blocked so mine got pretty painful. They did get the dye to clear out one tube but not the other so at least I have answers to why it wasn't happening and hope that now it will. Best of luck on your test! :dust:

Thanks. They haven't prescribed me anything so IDK. Maybe I will call my doctor and see if I need anything. Hopefully it will be on a day that my mother can take me since the hospital where I am having it done is thirty minutes away.

They offered general anesthesia during HSG to me and I accepted that so I was asleep. When I woke up I had AF type cramps and little bleeding. My sister and mother came with me as I couldn't drive after taking anesthesia.
Even if you won't be asleep it'd be better for someone else to drive you. good luck I hope everything turns out ok xx

I just had the HSG done on August 29; I drove myself and went alone. I took an 800 mg ibuprofin about 1 hour beforehand. I was so nervous, but the assistance was so nice in there; she held my hand cause I was so freaked out . All was good until the catheter fell out :dohh: and he shoved it back in me further (OUCH), unfortunately it was not a pleasent experience, but it was over with in seconds. I had vicoden at home, and thankfully I did because afterwards when I got home I had pretty bad cramping, not much bleeding, but the cramping was bad all night. The next day I was fine.

Good luck; hopefully your experience won't be so bad. It does not take long at all!!

Awesome. I am going to call my doctor and ask for some pain pills I think. Hopefully I can get it done on a Friday because that is my day off and my mother can drive me. Anyone else have any experience with it?
