We've just got my OHs second SA back from the clinic. He has a total count of 204 million with excellent motility, but morphology at only 10%. Do you think this is ok? The 'normal values' are 40 million with >15% morphology... 10% of 204 million would give a higher total number of 'perfect' sperm, but I don't want to jumpt to any conclusions. Also, what does 'Mean normal sperm conc' mean?

This may all be a bit irrelevant, as we are probably going to have to go for IVF anyway (I have a lowish AMH), but it would be nice to know that we don't have any other issues to face.

Thanks

Hi!:hugs:

10% morphology sounds great to me. It depends on which DR you speak with. Some will say its ok, some marginal and some bad. My DH has a morphology of 3% and we are ttcing as well. A lot of people will say that you cant really trust an SA until your DH has taken it at least 3xs. My DH has only had one and will be getting another one soon. There are women who have conceived with really low morphology but it may take a bit longer. Remember it only takes 1 good spermy to reach the eggy. I hope you get BFP without IVF but if you do indeed need it, I pray its successful. Blessings are yours!:hugs:

The results are really good! Morphology is a bit lower but the criteria these days is so strict that 10% is great.

Hi, we've been ttc for 1 year & 8 months, my OH's 1st SA which was done 6 months ago was:
4% Rapid,14% sluggish,34% non-progressive, 48% immotile & 29 million count. we had a m/c at 9 weeks which wasnt planned but ttc straight away afterwards & it took us 1 year & 6 months to get another BFP(chemical), the GP said it would happen for us but it could take a while which it did.. my OH has been taking serluim with zinc since his last SA and he's got another he's doin on mon, i'll post the results when he gets them back & see if the vits have made a diff. it will happen but give it time :)

With those numbers he can have 10% normal and still be OK...wow...I am jealous!

Mean is "average"...

So does mean normal sperm conc refer to normal sperm concentration? I'm guessing at the conc part...

If you are referring to his specific results and not the normal ranges listed on all lab results then it means this: It means all his numbers averaged together. For example if one is doing math and you have 3 numbers for example 10, 20, 30 you would add them all up and then divide them by 3 and you would get your average.

Here's a website that explains it better:https://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/58326.html

If I seen the actual report I could help you more. Maybe if you retype the basics of it here? I am pretty sure it means they took several samples from his sample and then averaged the numbers or you could be referring to the reference ranges listed? Hope you understand.

Thanks - I understand the term 'mean', I just don't know what "mean normal sperm conc" means, referring to his specific results... The result is 3.88 but no units are given. He had a concentration of 51 m/ml with a 76% motility and 10% normal forms.

Don't worry if that still doesn't make any sense - I've had a nice letter from the specialist today reassuring me that his results were 'good', so just my dodgy old eggs to worry about now!

OK now I understand and sorry for assuming you didn't know what "mean' meant! Wow how confusing! It means average per ml of semen with normal sperm:3.88 million. That doesn't sound like good results though?!
Hmmm I dunno, ask the doctor's office more questions! Heard many times where they said everything was good and it really wasn't. I was told everything looked "good" as well when upon talking to the doctor this was so far from the truth it was shocking. I hope you don't think I am trying to scare you, just passing this on as it could be time saving later.
