I just saw the hungry baby formula in the chemist and had a thought. LO takes 7 oz at bedtime of normal formula but always drains the bottle and i have a fight to get her to let go of the teat then she cries like she wants more. I havent been giving her more and she goes to sleep fine but wakes up at 2am wanting a feed where shes been sttn most nights for a good few weeks. Shes 18 wks old.

Do you think she needs the hungry baby formula or is she ready for weaning? I BF her in the day and she takes what she wants and seems satisfied in the day. She does look intently when im eating. Shes mesmerized. She hasnt started trying to grab food yet though.

Shes a big girl for her age. Shes on the 75th percentile and 91st for height. I havent had her weighed for 5 wks but last time she was 14lb 12oz when she was 13 wks old and shes packed on lots more weight since then. Shes definitely thriving and i have no concerns about her weight hence not being too bothered to get to baby clinic lately. Im going 2moro though and will ask HV same question.

What do you think?

I would try the feed for a hungry baby. Both of mine started on the SMA gold within the first month.
Xx

Why dont you give her more at bedtime? I was always told to make up an oz more than LO takes so that when they hit a growth spurt its there and if theres milk left you know they are full! You might find she just needs an extra couple of stage 1 milk in her bedtime bottle and is settled AND sleeps through.

I would probably just up her bottle to 8oz. Dont think there is a need for Hungry baby milk in this case. xx

i agree with ke29, id put an extra oz in her bedtime bottle. i do this with all my lo,s bottles though just in case hes extra hungry. i dont care if its wasted. i dont always finish every bit of my own meals after all so it makes sense to always offer my baby an extra oz. then when hes finished i know hes full and satisfied.

i switched lo to hungry milk after a few weeks on first milk, it helped him go longer between bottles.

at 18 weeks she could well be ready for weaning, but i wouldnt rush into it. maybe she just needs the extra milk for now. see how it goes!
