My 3 week old is now on hungry baby milk he's been drinking full 6ozs and 2 hours later he's still mooching for more like literally eating my shoulder I've tried boiled water and pacifying him with his dummy hungry horrice on my hands

It's a growth spurt. I'd lay off the hungry milk until he's a lot older. We used it before bedtime (still do) around five months. Every two hours is fine - at that age, my LO are every hour at least. He didn't go more than two hours until well over three months!

I didn't have this with my first as he was going 3-4 hours sometimes longer , the first milk he's just not getting enough from it, I've noticed after I've started him on it, he's settled a lot more, last night he slept from half 9 till 2, then slept half 2 till about 7/8

It's totally normal for a 3 week old to feed every 2 hours. The amount doesn't matter as much (as long as he's not being sick after). It's the frequency they need when they're little. Like others said, ditch the hungry milk. You want him to feed lots at that age and he knows what he's doing. If he's hungry, he needs nutrients, not fillers.

If baby was being being breastfed he'd be feeding just as, if not more, frequently. It's natural for newborns to want milk constantly. It's not that they're not satisfied with the milk, it's just that their little bodies are growing at such a rate they're constantly hungry. Hungry milk is just fillers designed to fool the baby into feeling full. I have nothing against it - I use it myself, but not until my LO was five months and only at bedtime. I still do and I attribute that to his beginning to sleep through around that age. I wouldn't give it to a newborn however.

It's okay for a baby that young to go 5-6 hours IF you are feeding them normal milk. If you're tricking their body with hungry baby milk, that's not right. When you say he's not getting what he needs from normal formula, he is, it's just that you don't want to give it to him that often - every 2 hours is right for a baby that age and will be for a long time yet. He's not getting enough from hungry baby milk.

I agree with pp. No offence but it sounds like you're giving him the hungry baby milk more for convenience (ie not having to feed him as often) than for him. My LO went through a phase around 3 weeks where he was bf then downing 4-5oz of ff (we're combi feeding) but the week after he was back to much smaller portions. It is a pain having to feed every 2/3 hours but it won't last forever. I always though hungry baby milk was to delay weaning which doesn't sound right if your LO is only 3 weeks. I'd speak to a midwife or health professional before giving him any more.

Hungry milk is just heavier. It has no extra nutritional value to it at all, actually by forcing your LO to go longer between feeds he is actually missing out on what he needs.

Its normal for a 3 week old to go 2 hours between feeds...its normal for them to only make a hour between feeds. Its alot of feeding but honestly it comes with having a baby.

Also a 3 week old should not be having water, again thats causing him to miss out on the essential nutrients and fat he should be getting from milk.

My 2 ff babies would have 5oz first milk every 2 hours (3-4 at night). As long as he's keeping the milk down then feeding on demand (however much he wants, whenever he wants) is absolutely fine until he is fully established on solids after 6 months. It's also good to remember that the amount of milk a baby drinks is more down to the baby's weight rather than age. X

My LO was feeding every 1-2 hours at that age! Even when we switched to formula, he never went more than two hours until he was around four months!
