Hiya, I was looking for some advice on hungry baby milk as I have a little piglet on my hands :)

Over the last few weeks Brady has steadily been eating more and more and is having 5-6oz every 3 hours during the day and every 4-5 hours at night. The last few days he's been finishing 6oz bottles, not at every feed but about twice a day but surely 7oz is a bit excessive for a 5 week old?! He was 8lb 6oz at birth, so a big baby, and he's now 11lbs!

On top of that he is being sick quite a bit but still wanting to eat, although I'm sure it's not comfort sucking he's after as he has different cues for that and weirdly it seems to be when he takes less milk that he's sick rather than when he finishes 6 oz.

He has had some problems with trapped wind and I changed to Dr Browns bottles last week which made the wind pain and being sick better than it was but he still seems to get some trapped wind.

I'm giving him about 2oz of water through the day as well because he gets constipated and struggles to poo otherwise. He is on SMA and I've now heard that it's common on SMA for babies to get constipated but I'm also wondering if it's causing the other problems as well?

When I took him to get weighed yesterday the lady there said that I could put him onto hungry baby milk as it may be that he needs the extra calories but his tummy is too small for what he's having which is why he's sick.

I'm planning on getting the hungry baby milk tomorrow as I've nearly finished the tin I'm on but I'm not sure whether to get the SMA hungry baby milk or to try another brand and see if this helps? I've heard that Aptamil is supposed to be the closest to breast milk.

Any thoughts?

Hi there,
Not an expert myself, Archie is my first. He has been ff since birth also on SMA, and also tends to sick up after most feeds, i was also contemplating changing brand a while ago but my HV said that there wasn't much difference brand to brand so thought better of it and things have settled down for us. I have a friend though who swears that switching to aptamil solved all her LO's windy sicky problems! I think alot of of is trail and error and just finding what's right for you! So not really very helpful lol!!!! The way I understand it is hungry baby milk is different composition to usual formula so makes baby feel fuller (i think,... happy to be corrected on that though!!!!!).
Good luck,

Hi, my lo is also 5 weeks and is in total on about 31oz per day, which when you look at the ratio of weight in lbs x 2.7 oz is about right for an 11lb baby. Don't forget that growth spurts are common between 5 & 6 weeks too!!
I understand that hungry milk is not really for babies as young as ours and could lead to big issues with constipation.
I personally use aptimil my mw told me either aptimil or cow&gate are the better ones! But who really knows!!
Before going on hungry baby milk check with your hv, after all a baby who is 11lb at 5 weeks is only on the 60th centile so quite normal!!!

Hiya,

Hollie has been on Cow & Gate hungry baby since she was 3 weeks old, she was bf for the 1st 8 days, then went on to normal Cow & Gate, but she was just constantly wanting more, wanting to be feed every 2 hours and drinking 3-4oz a time, spoke to HV and she said it sounded like she needed more and to buy a couple of cartoons to start with if she liked it hungry baby and well it changed instantly, she then went on to feed every 4 hours and at nigh has her 10pm bootle and sleeps till 6am, id o give her an extra scoop in her bottle at 10pm fills her up just that extra bit more xxx
