Hey ladies! My husband has a job out of town one week before our due date. It's an hour out of town and he'll be gone for about 12 hours. I know it doesn't seem like much, but was wondering if any of you guys think he shouldn't go? Basically, if he goes, he'll leave at 2pm and be gone until 3am. He said that he will come home instantly if there is any baby action, but will take him the hour drive, and extra time to shut down the job site, so probably more like 2 hours to the hospital. That's all IF I were to go into labour a week early and on that very night!

Sorry if this seems ridiculous, just wanted to see what you guys thought? I figure there's probably lots of dads to be out there that work like this all the time!

If it's for work, I would let him go. He said he will come back right away. It's only an hour.

Its only a hour away... let him work..

Yeah I think he should go seeing as it's only a hour away x

Yer i'd let him go. My OH is going to be away on training (4 hour helicoptor trip away) when im due lol He's in the army so really has no choice though xox

I hope you guys don't think I wasn't going to let him go! It was more deciding if there was enough time to come back if he needed to! We're all on the same page though, he is going to work and will come back if needed. I really doubt anything will happen that particular night, not to mention it's a whole week before our due date, and goodness knows I'll probably be late anyways! Thanks girls!

I think it would be anough time though hun, most labours go on for hours even days...if you were to go in labour that night...or just keep your legs crossed till he's home hahahaha

I think you should be OK too...but def call him if you THINK you are in labour....

Yeah an hour even two will be enough time hun.
Dont worry it will all be fine and with you stressing baby wont want to come then!!! LOL!
xxx

Yeh let him go, hopefuly you'll be having contractions for hours anyway, so he'll have plenty of time to get back before you have to go to hospital x

my husband works an hour away permenantly and is in work right up till he gets the phone call, sure it will be fine hun x

unfortunately i agree, i'd tell him to go, but i'd hate it! so i feel your pain! i'd love to have my boyfriend on standby for a month over my due date... or better still, at home with me!! :D xx

i think it should be ok for him to go hun..as long as he has all the numbers on him...besides its a bit of extra money that could be usefull
xx

Obviously I'm in the UK and my husband's normal place of work (london) is a good hour and half away by public transport, I don't think it's an issue to be honest.

You'll have plenty of time.

Just as long as you ring him as soon as you start contracting I think he'll have enough time to get home. xx

My DH works an hours drive away from home every day, so for me it woudn't really be an issue...

is this your first baby?

If it is, then i really wouldnt worry as a) you're most likely going to go over due and b) first labours in general arent quick.

The only thing I would say is make an alternative plan just in case OH gets delayed in any way. So have a friend or family member on call to take you to hospital just in case.

My hubby works an hour away normally and thats if traffic is good. The road often gets closed due to a steep hill that causes lorrys ot break down and burst into fire. if this happens he will have a 30 mile detour to get home

let him go but have someone you can call if there is need. my OH goes out on business like that sometimes, what we do is to have someone handy in mind and on notice if something happens that same day. plus it's not all the time that labour lasts for hours. apart from my 1st which lasted for 11 hours, all others lasted for 1 hour 45mins max[ the latest being that the baby was back to back]

It should be okay hun :hugs: Like the others have said make sure you have other peoples numbers you can call in case it does happen!!

My OH has a week or twos work in islington, london at the end of august - its quite a way from us anyway and takes ages in the traffic! Luckily my dad works in the same town where we live so he would be getting a phonecall if i started labour early lol!!
:)
