Has anyone used his and if so which part do you feel helped you the most?

I'm currently seeing a practitioner and have the book and rainbow relaxation, however I'm just not feeling it.

I've previously done hypno for fertility with a hypnotherapist. I've also had CDs to listen to and have responded to them very well. I just don't feel it's happening with this.

I'm not particularly scared of labour as I'll feel a huge achievement at that point as we struggled so long to conceive.

Anyone done or doing this?

Hey, I rarely pop back over here but I felt the same way about the Mongan method. There's just nothing to it. No substance I found. I switched and ordered hypnobabies instead and liked it far more. Water broke on my due date after listening to my birth day affirmations for the first time the evening before. Not sure if that was coincidence or not. Either way, all the preparation I did with the weekly program got me through 42 hrs of labour

I just signed up for a hypnobabies class, although I haven't taken it yet. I read some of the hypnobirthing stuff and it just didn't appeal to me, but hypnobabies did. Not sure why. I've done meditation before, although nothing like hypnosis...I guess the Mongan stuff just seemed a little more out there for me? Maybe read a little on Hypnobabies or Natal Hypnotherapy and see if one of those appeals to you more.

Also, if you have some experience with hypno, perhaps you can modify some of the tools you learn in one of these courses to your personal taste and what works for you...there's nothing to say you have to buy into everything in a particular course. I have a feeling I'll take what works for me, and leave the rest.

I used HypnoBirthing and personally didn’t use it during labour to the fullest extent (I didn’t listen to the CD). However, I felt the breathing and visualization techniques the most valuable, and the way it made me feel calm and excited about going into labour. It took away any fear or doubt, and that’s how it was helpful.

If the visualization techniques do not resonate with you during pregnancy, then forget them. Find something relaxing to you beforehand, like a visual image that makes you feel calm, and focus on that. Practice the breathing techniques that make you feel calm and revitalized and forget the rest. That’s how it will be helpful to you. :)

Hi Cooch, I'll be following this post :)

When I was pregnant with my first, I got the hypnobirthing book by Mongan which is orange with purple writing and a smiling baby on the front, not sure if that's the one you've got?

I stopped reading because I wasn't 'feeling it' -I remember feeling like it was a bit condescending to women who choose to use drugs etc for pain relief etc. I never went on a course though to be fair, and this, I feel, is extremely important. I don't think many women will be able to get 'into' hypnobirthing properly without the course.

With this pregnancy I will be doing a course, and have found by asking around that many practitioners use different books. I've now got one by Katharine Graves which I'm finding really useful already and the CD is very soothing and relaxing to me (she has also got some videos on youtube).

I think you should talk to your practitioner about the fact that you're not feeling it, and see if she can help you with this. Perhaps she could recommend you another book/CD?

Either way, I hope you have a lovely labour and birth. :) x

Well I went to my class last week and every time I leave I feel inspired. I was given the relaxation cd with an English voice, which is much more soothing. She also suggested I try and find some relaxing music to okay along side the hypno cd.

Had my ante natal class today and I'm getting scared again. Really need to start focusing.

Aww... I think you will be fine, you just have to set your mind to it (easy to say isn't it!?) What kind of music are you thinking of using? My usual taste won't really fit with the whole 'relax' theme surrounding hypnobirthing! lol ;) Try to avoid listening to non-positive birth stories -I think that helps me to not freak out (we all know things can go wrong, but I won't benefit from reading horror stories as I will just start imagining how I'd feel if it was me etc...)

I was using wave sounds, which I love.

I have since downloaded the Circle and Bloom hypno track. I love it! It knocks me out every time. I used Circle and Bloom all through my ivf.

I really liked my hypno birth. I didn't use the rainbow visualization stuff though...not my thing. But the breathing techniques and affirmations were great! :)

I literally listened to hypnobabies for most of my labour. It was intense. Mostly the birth day affirmations over and over (30 min track) and then a select few others that I liked like 'deepening your relaxation'. Whatever get you in that zone... I had some backup yoga music but I never used it.
