I didn't do hypnobirthing (as in the Mongan Method), but I did do natal hypnotherapy. All I did was listen to the CD (there's only one in NH) about 4 times a week from somewhere around maybe early 3rd trimester. I also put positive birth affirmations on sticky notes up around my house so that I would see them and read them every day. My yoga instructor also taught me a breathing method she called 4-6 breathing, basically you breathe in for 4 counts and then a long slow out breath for 6 counts and focus on relaxing your whole body on the out breath. Again, I really don't know anything about the Mongan method specifically, but I found hypnotherapy to be incredibly effective. I had an all natural home birth (first baby) with no other pain relief besides a TENS machine. I felt really relaxed and comfortable and labour was really manageable. I never even though about asking for any pain relief. I think the trick is really not to overthink it or focus too much whether you're doing it 'right'. Listen to the CDs regularly, try to stay positive and think positive thoughts about birth (you might find writing affirmations and reading them regularly helps, I felt like it did), and just let your body go with it. I didn't have to actually 'do' anything when I was in labour to make it work. Because I'd practiced, my body just knew what to do to stay relaxed and it worked.
