I'm not sure if I actually am as I haven't been diagnosed by a doctor but based on my symptoms, that's the only thing that makes sense. The only thing is that the only time that I can remember experiencing these symptoms while I was pregnant and shortly after giving birth. Here are my usual symptoms:
~dizziness
~weakness
~nausea
~temporary inability to see and hear
~disorientation
~sweating

When I was pregnant with DS, I actually passed out once. Since then, I made a point to keep some type of fruit juice on hand as I usually experience these symptoms in the morning before I've had breakfast.

I had mentioned to my doc when I was pregnant with DS and he wrote it off as dehydration. This morning was my first time experiencing these symptoms so I haven't mentioned it to my midwife yet but I plan to at my next visit.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

Hey :) i'm not 100% certain but those sound like symptoms related to blood sugar levels.
I've got diabetes and before it was under control i felt frequently like that, the last time i did i was out shopping, had drank a bottle of lucozade (before i know i had diabetes) about a hour later i was sweating, nearly fainted and felt really out of control.. like i couldn't think/respond to anything.

Thanks for the response. Yep, that sounds like how I feel when I go through these episodes. The only difference is drinking something sugary (like fruit juice) makes me feel a bit better. When they tested me for GD with DS, I was negative...but I still had these symptoms. I'm definitely going to mention it at my next appointment, though. :)

Btw, I love the name you've chosen for your LO. My DS's name is Jaylen :D

My dr noticed at my last appt that my sugar levels were a little higher than normal in my urine test. I don't have GD but I told her that I just had to have something a little sweeter for breakfast because when I woke up I felt a little dizzy and nauseous. I attributed it to not eating since dinner the night before. I generally have a snack about 2 hours before bedtime, but I didn't the night before. I have worked in the health care field as a care attendant in seniors rest homes and know the symptoms of low blood sugar levels so I knew what to do. Dr said that it was hypoglycemia and I was right to have something a little sweeter to bring up the sugar levels.

Try keeping a granola bar by your bed and if you feel those symptoms again when you wake up, eat the granola bar. It will give you a little bit of energy and take away the symptoms before you can get to your breakfast. You could also try keeping a small container of cereal by your bed (obviously without the milk). Just grab a handful or two and you should be ok.

Aww Jaylen is also a nice name :)
Thats usually what happens with me, i'd been feeling that way for weeks, this is in the long run if it is diabetes it wont make you feel much better eating/drinking something sugary, but it definatley works at the time, like if you are feeling really weak/faint, you eat some chocolate or a fizzy drink, you almost instantly feel better, but all that does is raises your sugar level really high then you get a sugar crash, its like a cycle xx

Thanks a lot ladies, the advice is really helpful. :)

I'm going to make sure to mention it to my doc the next time I go.

I really think it's hypoglycemia as opposed to diabetes because when my blood sugar gets low, drinking or eating something sugary only gives me enough time to find something more substantial...usually about 10-15min. Like this morning, I had some apple juice when I started to feel dizzy and faint...and I had started to feel faint and dizzy again by the time I finished cooking breakfast...about 10 min later...it's a horrible feeling, but I guess I really need to be more mindful of it. For the sake of both myself and baby...

Thanks again ladies :D

Yes its best to let your doctor know he/she will probably give you some more info :) i tend to link everything to do with blood sugar to diabetes Lol so forgive me for that! :) if it is hypoglycaemia they will probably give you like a diet plan or something with foods which should keep your blood sugar levels stable for longer xx

Oh it's fine! You're only giving advice based on what you know, so no worries

You've been a lot more helpful than the doc who told me that my symptoms were because of dehydration lol

Aww :) i can see in a way they would be signs of dehydration, but if you are making sure you drink plenty then it probably isn't that xx

Those are the signs I get when I am hypoglycaemic (I am a type 1 diabetic on insulin so if the insulin is too high I get low sugars) except that I also get ice cold after an episode of hypoglycaemia. The nausea definitely increases for me when my sugars are low.
Eat small meals often (6-8 times a day) as that usually can prevent it.

After my most recent episode, I kept going from being cold to getting hot and sweating. This happened about 3-4 times. It was awful.

I've really started making sure I eat enough and eat properly. I've never been a big eater and there were days (before I became pregnant) when I'd eat maybe 1200-1500 calories a day...just because I wasn't really hungry. Now, I make sure I eat regularly...I've also started having a piece of fruit, a bowl of cereal or something before bed. Last night it was an apple, the night before I think it was a blueberry muffin (homemade)...and I haven't had any problems since. I'm still going to mention at my next appointment, though so that they can at least make a note of it in my file.

@Sarah~ yeah with DS, my mother was always making me drink water so I knew there was no way I could've been dehydrated lol. This time around, I tend to have spotting and cramping when I don't get enough water and it scares the living daylights out of me so I try to drink about 2L a day, if not more lol

im insulin dependant diabetic. when i get hypo i get disorietated and weak, feel a bit like wading through syrup if that makes sense?

following a low GI diet will stop your sugar levels spiking up and down

Purplekisses sounds like you are doing the right thing now - glad it is improving.

ProzacQueen - I like your description of being low "wading through syrup" - my brain so does not work when I am low and that is what it is like.
