My OB/GYN put my on 3 rounds of Clomid back in July. I had to have a follow up appointment if the Clomid didn't work. Needless to say, it didn't work  and I had my appointment today. She put me back on Clomid (Double the dose from last time) and told me that I need to have a hysterosalpingogram done. I have heard a few different stories about having this done and it being painful. Any advice?? Please. :)

Oh and I'm pretty excited because my DH will be getting a SA done! Finally!! He isn't very happy thought :haha:

Thank you for reading! :)

Hi. I had an hsg done a couple of months ago. I was so scared! But fir me, it wasn't that bad.

I had a bit if discomfort when she injected the dye, but I didn't really notice her inserting the catheter fir the dye. The only thing I would say is just to ensure that you are in a comfy position (well as comfy as can be) as I had to lay there for a while.

Let them know that your nervous. I had one woman doing the dray, one down below inserting the dye etc and one near my head exposing it all to me and to be fair doing a good job of distracting me!

After I stood up I had a bit of pain and then got some lower back pain. It felt more like a period then anything else. It maybe worth taking some pain killers with you, but it wasn't that bad.

In my opinion, try not to worry to much, it looks and sounds scarier than it actually was!

Good luck.

Thank you so much for responding! I keep telling myself it can't honestly be that bad. And thank you for the advice! :)

I was in tears beforehand as I was so afraid but I genuinely didn't feel a thing and was laughing with the nurse about what an idiot I was to get that worked up over absolutely nothing. The horror stories are generally people that actually have quite badly damaged tubes & are definitely in the minority. I found lots of deep breathing once I was in there calmed me down. Good luck! x

I just had mine Monday and it didn't hurt ONE BIT!!! I also was very nervous, and was expecting some amount of pain, and I'm quite a baby so I was preparing myself. But trust me when I say I had no pain! I could feel him poking and prodding, and it felt like pressure, a few times kind of like pinching, but really was not bad at all. My dr told me to take 4 Aleve (which totalled 800 mgs) an hour before, which may have helped me. Good luck!! :hugs:

Thanks for telling me that. :) I'm a big baby too! Lol So normally I always freak out then think to myself, really that was it? Haha

Haha! The dr kept saying "Are you doing ok?", and I was like, "Yeah really I'm fine!" :haha:

Take some paracetamol or something before hand, it helps with the pain! :)

Dont worry about it. I just got home from one and it's nothing. A little uncomfortable maybe but totally fine. Good luck!

Yes, it is painful and uncomfortable but well worth it. I concieved 1 week after my HSG after TTC for over a year.

Lisa- yes i was ovulating but a little late in my cycle (cd 17-24). So late and a bit irregular. My bfp cycle was also my first cycle taking vitex. It brought my ovulation forward to day 15. I truely believe in its ability to regulate hormones and therefore regulate your cycle. Of course it can't be taken in combination with fertility drugs.

Oh ok. I was tempted to try Vitex to try to shorten my cycles, but it turns out that I'm not always ovulating so it looks like I'll be needing fertility drugs. Congrats again to you! :flower:

dont freak yourself out about it like I did. Reading all the horror stories online really had me freaked out before I had the HSG and I was seriously having panic attacks for the few days prior to the HSG. It was quick and a little uncomfortable but not painful and it was sorta neat to watch the screen as the dye flowed through. My doctor had me do the HSG prior to starting clomid, I started clomid right after the HSG and concieved that time! (could be just the clomid, could be because of the HSG too)

Good luck, I hope it goes well for you too and that you will soon get your BFP!

Sounds exactly like my situation, 50mg Clomid for 3 months, now 100mg for the next 3 months, getting my HSG on November 29, when are you getting yours?
