I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this cos I'm a little concerned and cos its Sunday I can't see a doctor, and because I have a 'teen midwife', there's two of them and the phone number I have is appointments only, and there's no gurantee they'd answer anyway.

It started lastnight, I was getting undressed, noticed my nipples had leaked a bit in my bra (had it for 4 weeks or so, midwife said it's normal, just the pre-milk leaking early) but noticed it looked bloodstained, so I very gently squeezed my nipple and aswell as the pre-milk, droplets of blood mixed in were coming out too. I decided to sleep in a bra with breast pads to see if it happened overnight, and its did, and since this morning, I've not felt right and there's still quite alot of blood mixed in with the fluid.

My prenatal books all tell me to inform midwife or doctor if this happens but atm I can't get hold of either, due to it being sunday.

So I'm just wondering has anyone else had this? Or something similar? Just so perhaps I can be assured it might not be something horrible? I'm really worried. :(

Ive not heard of it sorry :(

Maybe call NHS direct if you're really worried or speak to midwife/ doctor tomorrow

xx

i don't know the answer to this, but didn't wanna r&r
maybe go in to the hospital though, especially since you dont feel so good.

Hey hon, just so you know the technical name for what your leaking, it's "colostrum".

Just looking around online, it seems that blood in colostrum usually points to some point of infection in a milk duct.

You need to go talk to your midwife, insist you be seen and treated for it! You'll be fine to wait until tomorrow to go in, just make sure it is taken care of ASAP.

Personally, I'd call the hospital at which you intend to give birth, or the closest with a labour ward, and ask to speak to one of the midwives there, who will be able to give you advice and may want you to come in so they can check you over. From everything I've been told, blood mixed in with milk or colostrum is not something that should be overlooked.
Good luck xx

Did your midwife not give you the number of the maternity ward? In my maternity notes there are loads of numbers of people you can ring 24/7 if you are worried hun. If not then i'd ring nhs direct, i'm sure everything will be okay but just to make sure.

Thanks for your replies.

I rang the nhs direct number and they told me they were sending information to my doctor and to go see him if possible tomorrow, and goto hospital and get checked over if they start leaking only blood, or it starts "flowing".

The woman on the phone wasn't exactly the most helpful, I told her my problem and she said "OH, how weird!!!"... I was like "Gee, thanks!"

And now I've just noticed that both nipples are leaking blood now, (it was only the one before) but I suppose there's not alot I can do now bar wait til tomorrow.

didnt want to read and run but goodluck for tomorrow:hugs:x

sounds like an infected milk duct....did you get into the doc yet?

Well I hope you get into the doctor as soon as possible!
Goodluck, :hugs: xx
