Hi all,
I thought I would post this as a little bit of reassurance to those of you who are having cramps.:hugs:
I have been having cramps on off since finding out we were pregnant, but yesterday they got so bad, I fainted. (I was at a work meeting, so very embarrassing!) I had an extremely uncomfortable night and couldn't sleep.

So this morning we decided to go to my GP, who referred me straight away to the Earl Pregnancy Unit. As mentioned before my GP had wanted to scan me early anyway due to previous gynae problems, but I was trying to wait till next week.

Anyway - had the scan - I couldn't see the screen at first, but I could see my DH crying, which panicked me - then I saw the screen - it was amazing!
In exactly the right place and heart beating away.:happydance:

It turns out I have a cyst on my ovary and a kidney infection and they were prob both contributing to the pain. Also I have mentioned in a previous thread that I am very bloated and the consultant agreed and said that my pain could be from everything growing and stretching so fast. I am also 2 days earlier than thought, which is no major deal.

One unpleasant thing though, as I had a little discharge, which is normally nothing to worry about, they decided to do some swabs. This was extremely painful in my womb area (even though I know they don't go passed the cervix) To be honest the pain was worse than what I arrived with. As I got off the couch I began to flood bright red blood (sorry to be so descriptive). I have had many a smear before and never had this!Apparently this is not harmful for Peanut and I should be fine, but the pain is more intense now I am at home, and I am still bleeding.

Anyway I should try and stay focused on the major positive that before this happended we were so lucky to see a heartbeat and if you are having pain, it doesn't have to be a bad sign.

I just kinda wished I didn't say yes to the swabs as my worrying mind is starting to take over now and I keep going to the loo to check!

:hugs: Glad you saw the heartbeat--that's wonderful! Sorry to hear that you are in pain now though. I had a papsmear done at around 8 weeks and didn't experience any pain or bleeding....but I also don't have a cyst to deal with. Hope you feel better soon

that's great, you must be so excited, hearing the heartbeat left me completly dazed...

I bleed with every pg when they do an initial pap test. I mentioned in another thread, that my dr. said it is the cervix bleeding, not the uterus. When you are pg, hormones can sometimes cause the glands in the cervix to push outward, and when traumatized (touched!), they bleed. It is normal. Congrats on the heartbeat! Yeah for baby bean. I hope the cramping settles down and you can enjoy being pg.

Thank you for all your kind wishes, especially "pocahontus35"- I feel a little bit better about the bleeding .
Just worried now that the pain is worse since I went. I have it in my head now that peanut isn't very happy about having an internal ultrasound and an extremely painful smear!!! I hope there not contractions.
Oh i must sound like a right hypercondriact!
Thanks again.

I had a smear as well at about 7 weeks and bleed. It is just the cervix is more delicate, and has a lot more blood vessels in it during pregnancy. Congratulations on seeing the heart beat!

I was told that the cervix can be much more delicate when you are first pregnant and that poking about can cause bleeding so I think thats all it is. So pleased you saw the HB- Its really reassuring isnt it. xx

That is exciting!! I have an appointment this afternoon so I won't be shocked if I have some bleeding! :)

yay! It was very reassuring - but true to my natural urge to worry I've forgotten that feeling, and focusing on the cramps i'm having now since the smear. Blood has stopped though!

Thanks for all your reassurance. I would be going mad otherwise!

I just read that last post and realised how ungrateful I sound!
i'm sure lots of women would love to have an early scan, and I am greatful for the news. In fact I know some of you can't even have a 12 week one. So sorry for sounding so selfish and negative!
I just worry what is happening now.

glad everything is OK for you now. Hope you start to feel better soon.

I dont think it sounds bad at all. i'm so glad ur little one is ok. your worried.
I'm the same as you, a natural worrier. And its normal to worry!(apparently)
i'm terrified that the cramps are a sign of something bad. Yesterday was horrible for me, I've had it in my head if there was something to go wrong it would have been then at 5wks 4d as this is when my sis's bean stopped growing. (ridiculous i know). cant wait to see midwife on tues!

Congrats on seeing you bean :)

I always keep up to date with my smears, and never understand why they feel they have to do one in early pregancy. I refused to have one in second and this pregnancy.

Chin up, and I hope you feel more comfortable soon and begin to enjoy your pregnancy :) :hugs:
