I feel so bad :( cut babies finger :(

Another guilty finger-cutting Mummy here! It's a horrible feeling but these things happen unfortunately.

I have done this too. Sat clipping LO's nails and managed to take a chunk out of her thumb. She cried the house down and it bled everywhere! I called my mum in hysterics asking her to come over, she rushed round and must have been imagining the worst, think she was rather surprised when it was just a cut thumb. She found me and LO on the sofa both crying our heads off! :sad2: LO calmed down after a feed (that's the magic of (.)(.) for you!) but I kept crying for ages. Felt so guilty that the first pain LO had really experienced was my fault and every time I looked at the little cut I felt sick. Was worried she'd hate me and never let me near her again. Think she'd completely forgotten it by the time she woke up, she's never shown any fear of me or the clippers and her little thumb healed really quick.

Was terrified of telling OH, sobbed to him about it when we got home, apologised profusely as was worried he's think I wasn't capable of looking after her. He took one look at the thumb and said 'is that it? She's fine', gave me a big hug and told me not to be silly, it's so easy to do. Still have never confessed to MIL though as would never hear the end of it! (luckily she was on holiday so didn't see LO until it was all healed!)

It is very easily done, you'd think those clippers would be better designed! Other mums have recommended baby nail scissors (with the rounded tips) or emery boards to me, but I've just wimped out of nail trimming and it's now OH's job! Feel better soon, it really is worse for you than your LO :hugs:

Well, I managed to cut LO with those 'safe' baby nail scissors... :dohh:

I can't cut LO's nails short enough with the scissors. And they grow very quick, so she'd be forever scratching herself (and me) especially now she's in 6-9 month clothes and they don't have built in scratch mitts (she pulls regular ones off).

This happened to me the first time I tried to cut LO's nails myself. I cried more than he did. I would stay away from clippers, they are nasty. Try baby nail scissors or emery boards. :)

It's just so easily done.... I've done it a couple of times too and feel horrendous. My husband refuses to cut nails, so is supportive if I nick our children with the scissors. It doesn't get easier, my six and four year old boys wriggle more than our baby!!

Just a word of caution about using plasters, my health visitor told me to make sure it was covered with a glove or a babygro with those pull over sleeves as she was concerned about choking. Will the worrying ever end!?!

xx

Yeah I put a bit of bandagey tape stuff on just to stop the bleeding and took it off when the bleeding stopped and just letting it get air. It's scabbed over and looks a lot smaller and less bad today lol!

God I still feel awful but you ladies have helped.
