I just need some support right now. I feel absoloutley terrible. I've always been so careful with him. Never leaving him unattended for a second, never knocked his head or bumped him or ANYTHING. The only time he's cried in pain is with wind or his injections.

his nails grow SO fast and he doesn't stay still enough to file them and wakes up if I try when he's asleep. So I clip them. Never had any problems. It's a lil tommee tippee clipper from a set.

Today I was clipping his thumbnail and he moved suddenly and I cut a chunk out of his thumb!! It bled for about 5 minutes and i put a plaster on and I've take it off and it's already scabbed over and healing but it looks a proper little chunk out of his thumb...not a huge cut just looks deep :(

I feel so bad. My OH has been away for 3 days with work and I feel like hes going to think 'oh my god i can't leave her with him!' even though I know he won't and he'll be understanding I just feel so guilty.

Please make me feel better ladies :( I feel the worst guilt and pain over this. Seriously. He cried for about 2 minutes and wasn't even that distressed over it at all, but I cried a lot longer!

:(

It's easily done, I clipped one of Robyn's fingers last week. It bothered me more than it did her, her finger's healed up already. And they won't remember it.

Don't feel bad! When Maddox was only three weeks old or so, my hubby clipped the end of his finger by accident. It bled like crazy and hubby felt awful, but after the initial surprised cry, Maddox didn't seem to notice it anymore. It healed quickly and Maddox never seemed to associate nail trimming time with pain, so it must not have been traumatic for him.

It was traumatic for hubby though. To this day he refuses to trim the baby's nails or even watch while I do it. :haha:

Awww I'm sorry! Its an honest mistake! It happens a lot, they are so darn wiggly. Lo is FINE, its already forgotten. You are a wonderful mommy, don't beat yourself up:)

I've done exactly the same as you, only my son managed to suck the plaster off his thumb and stuck it to the roof of his mouth. :dohh: I thought we were going to be one of 'those' a&e stories until I managed to get it off. :)

Aww don't worry! LO is fine and you're a great mammy! Accidents happen :flower:

These things unfortunately happen, don't beat yourself up over it :hugs: I once scratched DS1's face by accident and it wouldn't stop bleeding and I was crying my eyes out! It scabbed over and I felt horrible explaining to everyone what had happened to him when they asked. Needless to say I now keep my nails really short ;)

Don't feel bad. I once accidently bumped LO's head on the doorframe. These things happen. I'm sure your LO is fine.

Oh my god I could've written this exact post yesterday, I did the same and she screamed :( I was so heartbroken I rang my MIL and FIL and asked them to come round to check if it needed stitches haha! Amazing how much it bled, but she was fine after whinging for half an hour or so. Her daddy's on nail-clipping duty from now on! X

OMG I could write a list! I scratched Lily's face while pulling her away from the bin the other day. And when she was a bit younger I was carrying her around Ikea and thought I'd left enough space to get past a shelf. Turns out I'd only left enough space for myself, and Lily's head went straight into the corner of it. I think I cried for longer than she did! X

I've cut his finger when trimming nails and accidentally scratched his face when leaning in to pick him up off the floor. It's the most terrible feeling in the world! Thankfully, he always recovers very quickly. I try hard to be careful when cutting his nails but everything is so tiny and he's constantly wiggling. It's really hard to do. Often I put it off, he grows little claws, and it really hurts me when he grabs me or pinches me.

My LO was born with long nails and I cut her in the process of cutting them...she was a day old. I was gutted, so much so that I didn't cut her nails for weeks afterwards, I felt like such a bad mom because of it!!! But...it was an accident and I now cut her nails each week (can't have her mauling other children lol) and have put that first incident behind me.

On Tuesday I learned why you should always keep your washing machine door shut. My LO loves to play with the washing machine but has only ever been at it when it's on and locked...on tuesday it was empty. what I didn't realise was that she was opening and shutting the door with her right hand...trapping her left fingers in the hinge as she did...took me a minute to figure out why she was screaming, but I felt SO SO bad when I did. But she was fine in a few minutes and it was an accident, move on and learn from it :)

Thank you ladies. I hate looking at the little cut I feel terrible!

I feel a lot better now though thanks to these posts so thank you x

Seriously you'll look back and laugh when you're cleaning up grazed knees and digging out ice packs for bumps. This will seem like nothing. We all do something silly every now and then which ends up traumatising us much, much more than our Los.

Thank you it just bled a lot, it's scabbed over now and looks ok. Just looks like a tiny chunk missing though. Still feeling bad but definatley better! he's forgiven me I think ;)

Take a little trip over to the sticky "guilt free bad mother confessions" and you will feel much better! There's at least fifty posts of moms doing the same thing!

This has happened to my LO twice, the first time she had just come home from the hospital! My sister was trying to trim her nails and nicked her. My sister cried for a long time LOL

Then one time I did it, I was clipping while she was sleeping, nicked her fingertip, all she did was stir in her sleep. I felt terrible both times though~
it happens

I've done the same thing! I felt so bad and I almost cried. My OH insisted that the next time we need to cut her fingernails, he will do it. Well, his turn came and he cut her too...and even worse than I did! It was awful, but thankfully babies are only in pain for a few minutes at most and then they forget about it. We've all been there :hugs:

I did the same thing. I'll never use those clippers again. My LO is way too wiggly. I use the scissors now and, knock on wood, no accidents yet!

:hugs: Don't worry about it. He's forgotten it already. If he sucks on it before it heals, put a sock over it. We had 2 days of sock + band aid and it was completely better.
