I keep thinking I have a night solution for cloth worked out and every second morning (it seems) I get thrown a pee covered curve ball!

This morning his diaper was nearly dry everywhere but his hip... His pee leaked up and over his hip again... In a fitted diaper and wool!

I have motherease one size fitteds and kissaluv fitted diapers. I have tried one brand with 2 bamboo inserts, the other brand with 2 bamboo inserts, motherease with their insert and a bamboo insert, one of each diapers on top of each other. I just don't know!

He was in the kissaluv diaper last night with two bamboo inserts. I think what happened last night was he pushed himself up on the bed and that caused the diaper to scooch down and that maybe caused the problem. I know his penis was pointed down every time.

Gah!

Maybe my wool needs to be lanolinized again but I don't think that's the only problem. I have more pairs coming in the mail so I can really get those good and try them.

The two diapers on top of each other worked the best but I feel like his little legs are so uncomfortable like that. Please tell me I'm worried over nothing...

Why can't I work this out??

It sounds like LO is heavily wetting one part of the nappy and it is leaking through the wool before the wee has time to disperse throughout the whole nappy. I would definitely try lanolising again - get them really well coated in it!

I would also try adjusting the fit of the nappy. However much LO wriggles, the nappy should really stay in place. We've tried the cotton fleece Kissaluvs and also the Marvels and I find them a VERY strange shape - I just couldn't get them to fit my LO properly at all. I have never found another nappy that didn't at least look like it fitted properly so I don't think she's a strange shape, I think they are just odd nappies... so that could be part of your problem if you find the Kissaluvs move more than than the Motherease.

I'd also try varying the fabrics you're using. Sometimes microfibre can help distribute wee around faster than natural fibres so that might prevent puddles.

More absorbency should help stop a pool of wee reaching the wool too. You're not using heavy-duty night solutions by any means... and sometimes, if LO wets one spot heavily you do need a good night nappy for the extra thickness even if it isn't actually needed all over. You could try boosting certain areas but it's hard to know where if LO moves about.

The last thing I'd try (or first, if you're fed up of wet sheets and just want a quick solution) would be a PUL/TPU cover. Wool is great and allows wee to evaporate, theoretically allowing the nappy to absorb more, but it won't allow wee to puddle in it like PUL would. With PUL, if LO made a puddle the PUL wouldn't normally let it through so it would force the wee back into the nappy to disperse but wool can be overwhelmed. TPU is, I believe, more environmentally friendly than PUL and can be biodegradable. No solvents are used in making it so although it's still synthetic, it should be less chemically, if that concerns you.

When you say LO's legs are uncomfortable, do you mean spread wide? I wouldn't even consider worrying about that. Babies' hips are much better spread wide than allowed to be close together. It won't hurt LO as that's how young babies naturally hold their legs.

Thank you for all your help.

I think my little guy wets one spot so much because he doesn't move around much once he's asleep.

I don't have any pul covers, only wool. I have no problem using it, I just don't have any for some reason. Well, I do but the ones that came with the motherease diapers don't fit around my little chubber's thighs. :haha:

I find the kissaluv diapers strange too. The motherease ones fit well and if I put a kissaluv under the motherease one they stay well. I don't know why I decided to try like that last night.

I'm going to lanolinize my wool again a lot and hopefully that will help and then go with the two diapers. That worked pretty good, no spots of pee like last night.

I only have one microfiber insert. I have all bamboo and cotton because I read that microfiber loses its absorbency after a while.

I don't know for sure if he's uncomfortable, but yes, legs spread is what I meant. I don't know if he's uncomfortable but he didn't sleep as well the nights I did two diapers. But that could be the two teeth he got yesterday

So, as of right now my plan is to lanolinized like crazy and go with two diapers and see how that goes. If it goes well I'll keep it up, if not I'll have to search harder for night time diapers here. I don't know why no one seems to have them on their sites. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong sites... Haha!

Thank you again for all your help :flow:

I used bamboo fitteds at the beginning, but never wool. I soon realized I didn't like bamboo at all. The entire diaper was soaked and wet, so I tried pocket diapers with microfiber inserts. I never wanted to use synthetic anything, but Bumgenius 4.0s have lasted 8 to 11 hours through the night. Then again I have a girl, so maybe that's different as well.

What is he wearing on top of the nappy / wool?

I'm no expert at all but I did manage to stop all leaks by using fleece pj bottoms over her nappy then putting her vest over that (with extender if needed). We use a bg new version elemental with hemp booster. just thought I'd share what worked for us x

Thanks :).

I did two diapers and wool last night and it went well.

My little guy goes 12-13 hours overnight so I'm not sure if anything other than fitteds would be absorbent enough. I don't like how the whole thing gets wet either, but it doesn't seem to bother him.

I don't put anything over the wool. I put him in wool longies and a long sleeve shirt, no onesie. The only time it moved was with just the kissaluv diaper and inserts.

Thanks for your help ladies :)

That's why it took me so long to find a night nappy combo that worked for us too, because I didn't like how some of them left her wet all over. Like your LO, it didn't seem to bother my daughter either though! I was surprised with the Bum Genius that it works so well but she's dry in the morning and its the only one she is, even compared to proper night nappies!

Glad they are working well for you now...its frustrating finding the right mix for you!x

Thanks :)

We seem to have two issues, one I think I have figured out and one that I just can't seem to understand for the life if me (but seems to be worked out with the same solution)

The first one was absorbency but I think the two diapers might be doing the job. The second problem is fit. I think because nothing really seems to fit well the pee will go up and over his hip, even laying on his back with his penis pointed down. The fitteds seem to be helping that because they are absorbent all over, but it only works with two diapers.

My little guy has this problem in every single diaper I've tried, disposables included. I can't believe he's that super chubby?! I used to be able to fix it by going up a size in disposables for overnight (he was always in cloth during the day) but now that made the problem worse. I feel terrible to have to wake him in the night to change his diaper, clothes, and blankets (he sleeps on receiving blankets to catch any leaks, we bed share)

I have this same problem with my youngest. We joke that he holds it all in until bed time then its a peefest! Weve clothed both our kids from birth so we have every combination to try and he just wets through it all. Disposables included :nope: For him its been since he turned a year old. So hopefully it stops soon! Tonight we may try two disposables on top of each other

I hope you find a solution!

Finn doesn't even need to have a full diaper for it to leak. He has had disposables be empty and still leak. I think it's because he's so round... Haha!

Two fitteds and wool has been working great. Going to keep it up :)

Have you ever tried side snapping fitteds? I usually find you can get a better fit with them as you can adjust the waist and thigh snap separately so you can tailor the shape more to your baby. I only use side snapping night nappies... not really something I thought about but the best night nappies we've found just happen to be side snapping, possibly something the nappy makers thought about and that's why they work so well for us?

I never thought of that. What brands can I look for? I haven't seen any side snapping diapers anywhere :(

I really must be looking at the wrong shops online no one advertises a night time diaper. Well, that's a lie, one recommended the AMP hemp fitted boosted or a bamboo fitted boosted (I can't remember the bamboo brand) Also, the motherease site recommends the sandy diaper boosted.

Are there any brands that do side snaps or would I have to look for a WAHM diaper?

Thanks again for your help :)

Hmm I'm not familiar with Canadian brands or shops. TBH though, both of my first choice night nappies are from Australia, not the UK where I am! Baby Beehinds make my first choice NN. They ship internationally from their website. I didn't think the shipping was too expensive when I ordered from them and they seem to have regular sales of 25% or so off, which covered the international shipping for me. My second choice is the Designer Bums Night Nappy but there is a UK retailer of those. You could look at shops in different countries and compare prices to import... watch out for sales! Air miles become an issue then but I think (hope) that not having to use disposables helps compensate for that. You need to watch out for import duties too; I've never had to pay any. WAHMs could be a good option though; if you find any feel free to post a link and people can have a look :)

Thanks! I'll have a look at those brands I'm not sure we have many brands here, tbh. It sure feels that way anyway.

If I find anything I'll definitely share here :)

How is postage from the US, do you know? If it's not too bad, you could look at Holden's Landing. The Bedbug Plus has pretty great absorbency and side snaps - we found the fit really good and the absorbency was decent for a night nappy. Bonnie is really nice and can do pretty much anything if you want a custom nappy. I prefer just the dyed ones - we had a chaos rainbow that I adored! I wouldn't get a standard Bedbug as I didn't find them absorbent enough but the Plus is a good nappy to try. They can seem expensive but the quality is there and if you're going to spend money, I think it's worth spending in for night times.

Thanks :)

I was just looking at the baby beehinds. They look great! They have a 30% off sale now.

I will look at the ones you just linked too.

Thanks again for all your help :flow:

I love our BBHs. If I had to pick my favourite nappy ever, they would probably be it! Not a pretty day nappy but they have made our nights fuss free and I REALLY like my sleep so that's important . Their Petite AI2s are pretty amazing too.

Awesome! I like how the whole thing is lined in fleece. I might just have to order some :) and check out the ai2's... Haha!

Yes that's what I like too, it's been quite important to have a stay dry layer for my kids overnight.

I'd check out the import duties to see what value you can order upto without paying extra taxes or anything. I did two orders of 3-4 nappies each and didn't pay anything, thankfully.
