I've been reading a lot of posts here lately of a lot of women posting about worrying about miscarriage and/or bleeding and a lot of us suffering with morning sickness. So I thought we can change the subject for a little bit and I thought I'd make a thread about something that would take our minds off things for a bit!

So...I was wondering who here likes scary movies? I just saw Insiduous the other night and honestly I had to sleep with the light on. Then I heard footsteps and I saw from the corner of my eye a little kid standing there and I got so scared...it was just my daughter waking up from a nightmare...lol....my mind was really playing tricks me with because of that movie. Anyone saw it? And what other scary movies are good?

I'm quite the horror fan. Just saw Insidious today. I liked it. Some genuine scares there.

I also just watched Absentia (2011) on Netflix streaming. Also scary, very character-driven plot. Bonus: it's about the relationship between two women, and contra most horror movies, neither of them is there to be eye candy nor the stoic heroine. They are both deeply flawed individuals who come across as very real. Double Bonus: One of them is 8 months pregnant! And the movie does not end with her baby being evil or her pregnancy ending in a gruesome manner! It's very low on gore and violence. Little bit of swearing, no nudity.

Horror movies I recommend that most people haven't seen:

  • Triangle (2009) --- Seriously, this one made me cry. Movies NEVER make me cry, y'all!
  • Kill List (2011)
  • Splinter (2008)
  • Cube (1997)
I watched V/H/S (2012) recently, too. The first segment (not the frame story) was absolutely terrifying. Pretty much everything else was crap.

There really haven't been many good ones lately. At all. Hubby and I rented one the other night...don't even remember what it was called. It was beyond dumb. It was shot with one camera the whole movie by an amateur...awful. The motion made me sick just watching it. But I LOVE scary movies....just basically given up looking for them cause there haven't beenany good ones lately :(

You probably mean Silent House. I actually liked that one a lot. The one-uncut-shot thing does get old, but Elizabeth Olsen is a tremendous actor.

my friend says the human centipede changed her life. because no matter how bad her life feels, at least shes not in the middle or end of a centipede line....now I'm debating watching it or not

Yep that's the one. I couldn't even watch the movie cause the camera work made me motion sick :(

Omg the human centipede what asickmfilm that was! I. Find it kinda creepy that people's minds actually work that way lol

All the saw films too really baffled me how sick in the head someone would have to be to be thinking these things, before I seen them I would never have come up with anything like it at all lol I would be so bad at torture lol

lol that's what I was telling my friend. I was all how do you pitch this movie idea? and who sits there listening to said pitch and they say YES THAT IS BRILIANT!!!

This is how I imagined it would go

Director wannabe: okay okay hear me out okay? I wanna make a movie with a guy who is surgically sewen to another guys butthole....and then I force the first guy to eat so he has to shit to make the other guy eat his shit...

Person listening: I dunno....that just doesn't seem to be enough\

Director wannabe: okay wait wait there is more!!! how about on top of those two I sew ANOTHER guy to the guy already eating shit so he not only digests shit he also shits shit, then the third guy has to eat that super filtered uber shit!!!

Person Listening: OMG THAT'S JUST BRILLIANT!!!! GET ON IT!!!

Hey! This was supposed to help those with ms! You just added to it!! :haha:

Defo want to see Mama!

Insidious was v. scary - we are going to download Sinister, is it any good? Japanese horror flicks are usually a good watch, The eye (the original version) was very scary

human centipede 1 is not too bad, scary and funny as well. But i wouldn't recommend human centipede 2, i still have terrible flashbacks.
:nope:
i thought it was too sick (not scary, but just plain sick)

Oh my word on a stick!!! I love horror films and usually it takes A LOT to freak me out but Sinister scared me I mean genuinely scared me! I don't know why and I felt like I needed to watch it again straight after. The weird thing was it was all I could think about for the next couple of days maybe my baby brain has turned me a little bit

I don't like scary movies, my niece showed me the advert for mama and I was interested in the story, like why it took 5 years to get to the kids and who 'mama' was cos surely if it was their mother she would be happy her kids were save target than being evil to the people looking after them, but I told her she will have to tell me about it are she had seen it because there is no way I'm watching it lol

I used to love scary movies. But after having my first children I just can't bring myself to watch them.

I remember in my late teens and early twenties that I had a major thing about horror movies, I watched very obscure ones that used to be shown late nights on Bravo, with weird titles like 'Revenge of Billy the Kid', 'Bloody Birthday', 'Sorority Cheerleader : Bowlarama', 'House by the Cemetery'. They were all terrible B movies, but I used to get a kick out of them.

I've got quite a few horrors within my 400+ dvd collection (yup, I'm crazy), including classics as the original Halloween, Nightmare on Elmstreet, and Friday 13th, and it's going to be hard to break them apart so that little hands can't reach them in years time.

Even though I know the series isn't everyone's cup of tea, I absolutely adore the Saw films. For me I just ignore the gore part and focus on the psychological side, which to me is the appeal as despite all the sequels they were actually wrapped up well together.

Insidious is definitely on my to-see list, still don't know why I haven't gotten round to watching it yet.

I've seen so many horror films that I can never remember the names of them. I'm sure I've seen Insidious. My scariest films are the ones like Blair Witch (only the first one) and Paranormal Activity because you could - or I could - imagine them happening to me. They freak me out. I'm always too scared to go upstairs to the loo on my own afterwards!

And then freaky things keep happening in my house at the moment which doesn't help so I don't even need the horror films. The other morning, my son fell asleep in my bed so I left him there and put the baby monitor on. But the baby monitor is in his room - it's a video monitor one - so rather than move it, I just left the camera part in his room and took the monitor downstairs so I would hear him if he wakes up. Our room is close enough to his room that I would have been able to hear him. Anyway, I could hear some banging on the monitor. I thought that it couldn't be my son because he couldn't make that kind of noise, especially not when he was in my bed so I wondered if one of the cats had got locked in his room. Or if it was just one of the cats because they can and do make that kind of noise. So I went upstairs, my son was still fast asleep and one of my cats was in the other bedroom (it's actually the spare room so we call it her bedroom because she's always in it!), curled up fast asleep and my other cat was downstairs asleep.

So that freaked me out. People told me it was just radio interference but I've never heard this kind. It literally was like someone was opening and closing drawers, rummaging around, etc. Then I got paranoid and decided I wanted to sit with my son - my mind was playing tricks on me by then - so I quickly nipped to the loo and didn't bother shutting the door and I swear I saw a black shadow whiz past the hallway. Wondered again if it was my cat but she was still asleep.

Then downstairs later, I saw something black whiz past my head. Thought it was a fly because my cat saw it as well. Her eyes were on stalks but I never found a fly. Then that evening, I was closing the bedroom curtains (this bedroom overlooks the garden) and I saw an orange glow at the end of next door's garden - this was at about 10.30pm/11pm. I called my husband to come and see but he saw nothing. So again, I was feeling a bit freaked out but then I saw my neighbour making his way back to the house so it was obviously him having a fag. So that one was explained. God knows about the others!

So yeah, I don't really want to watch any horror films at the moment. Especially as my husband thinks I'm a nutcase!
