I am buying my son a bed from there and a mattress to go with it so the size thing shouldn't be an issue. However I am buying a bed for me and OH but we are keeping our mattress (Tempur one) so has anybody has any issue size wise with buying an Ikea bed base and using as existing mattress? This size issue is totally sending my head west.

These are the beds

I have an ikea bed and a normal mattress. The mattress is smaller but its ok..there is gap but i just push it up so the gap is at the bottom. It isnt really a huge issue tbh. It might be for a young child cause i suppose they could be trapped between the mattress and the bed but not for an adult.

Hi chick, I do!

We had a previous mattress and it fit just perfectly, no issues whatsoever. :flower:

YOu dont see the gap, mine is a malm. They are different sizes..beds..and mattresses unless they have changed them recently.

I suppose it depends where you are from. I am from the UK. The beds and mattresses from ikea are not the normal size here.

We have this exact bed! And an ikea mattress do you think it would be a perfect fit but the mattress is short so there's a gap that my pillows fall down! :brat:

We are the same. I put the gap at the bottom. I think the person that said it is perfect is from America? It may be different there. There is definetly a difference with a standard mattress and a ikea bed. You ideally need to buy both from ikea. I think they may be continental sized beds and mattresses??

Our bed is from Ikea. We had a mattress made to fit ours when I was pregnant xx

I guess it would depend if you were happy with there being a gap or not :)

I will have to live with the gap as oh has had 2 back operations and needs his tempur mattress sacrafices eh lol! X

Do you have to get it from ikea? Cos places like argos do bed frames they are reasonable and are the standard double and king size x

I dont really find the gap a huge issue tbh. When the gap appears at the pillow up at the top i just push the mattress up to the top so the gap is at the bottom. Its no big deal really.

i have a gap but it doesnt bother me..
the gap is at the bottom and on my side of the bed..

it doesnt bother me at all & the duvet covers it during the day, some days i catch my knee on the frame when i get in bed which results in a few swear words (i have dodgy knees so it kills).

xx

Argh, yes! I didn't have a bed frame before, just my box springs and mattress on a metal frame and when I got my frame, I kept slamming my legs and knees on it. Oh it hurt so bad and I was bruised so badly. I know better now but still occasionally bump it for late night bathroom runs which results in loud swearing. :haha:

Both my bed and mattress are from ikea! Still a gap :( I have the gap at the bottom but it always seems to go back to the top to eat my pillows :( really want a new bed lol!

Booth, im quite surprised at that. You would think a mattress from Ikea would fit their beds perfectly.

We have a Ikea bed, there is a inch gap at the end of the mattress because its not a Ikea one
