... Maybe more adventurous and experimental than some... No this is not miscategorized. I have some extra milk in my fridge and I prefer to give my baby fresh milk so that means it needs to be dumped. Or... used! I was trying to think about what to do with it and then I thought, horchatas would be good! But that's rice based and I don't want to make rice. What could replace rice? Oats! So I'm going to make a breast milk and oat horchata as soon as Violet falls asleep (I'm rocking her in her rocker with my foot so I can't start now). I'll report back on it after I try it. :)

You should experiment too and report back :)

Step one to experiment:

Mix in pot and heat to steaming:

12 oz breast milk
1/4 cup (packed) oats
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp honey

Remove from heat.

Now I'm waiting for it to cool. This also gives the oats time to "steep." I plan to also put it in the blender instead of separating the oats from the liquid. I imagine it might need some more liquid, but who knows. If it does need more liquid, I plan to add water. We shall see what it turns out to be. Perhaps it isn't so much an horchata as it is simply inspired by horchatas.

It's in the fridge now but I tasted it. It didn't need extra liquid but it could be a bit sweeter. Not a bad solution to extra pumped milk.
