Here's my story.......

I have been TTC #2 for 18 months now. After 10 months of trying the doctor checked my TSH and subsequently prescribed synthroid. The same month I was also prescribed clomid and got pregnant, but sadly miscarried at 6 weeks, that was in November. The doctor was convinced my under-active thyroid was to blame so we tried naturally for the next three months. In January I had a chemical pregnancy and in March they put me back on clomid, which was unsuccessful (AF started yesterday).

My doctor now wants to do an HSG which, correct me if I'm wrong, but if i've gotten "pregnant" twice wouldn't my tubes be open (at least one anyway). I've heard the HSG is extremely painful, and i'm not too excited about that. Personally, I would like to try a third round of clomid but my doctor seems to be against it, which i'm not sure why. I've heard of women taking clomid for six months.

What do you think I should do next? I'm at a point where I just don't know anymore. :(

I would have the HSG done. Its actually not tha bad. I know its worse for some people, but I think the anticipation is the worst part!
Yes, you can take Clomid 6 cycles. But wouldnt it be best if the HSG shows something? Its completely up to u, but when a HSG was suggested to me, I jumped at it. Mine didnt show anything, and that was almost a year ago, but maybe urs will show something they can correct!
Its a tough decision. And one only u can make! I wish u luck with this decision! If u have any questions about the HSG tho, let me know!

AnnaCat hopefully your thyroid is under control, sounds like this is very new to you and sometimes it can take well up to 4-5 months to get the right dose for you. When you add ttc it will require a closer monitor on it and usually a higher dose since hormones are all over the place...thought that might help you since it's something I've been dealing with also for many years, your thyroid plays a large role in this as well. Just dont want you to overlook that part I've had many dr's who did unfortunately...sorry for my babbling about nothing to do with your original question :( hope it might help a small piece of this for you!

if you got pregnant your tube are ok...it would take a few months to get your thyriod under control and that probably might be throwing your fertility off...it might take a bit...

i would give that med time to settle and see what dose your really going to end up with...it took me months to see what i ended up with...i was on one dose for months...then another and then another.....took a full yr till my thyriod was under control and that was considered quick.....so i agree with the other girl when she says give your thyriod meds a chance....

Thanks ladies! I have been on the thyroid meds for 5 months and been getting regular blood test to monitor levels and the doctor always tells me the levels are where they should be, now. With that said, my thyroid wasn't that far off of normal to begin with. It was 3.3 and they said they would like to see it under 2.5 when TTC, it's now 1.7 and has been for the last three months so I don't think it's the thyroid anymore.

I asked the doctor about the possibility of my tubes being open if I have gotten pregnant, he said the pregnancy could have been in the tubes. Because I had an early miscarriage the location of the pregnancy is unknown. So it is very possible its my tubes , which at this point I'm hoping it is just to have an answer. I'm just very nervous about the pain associated with the HSG and the possibility it could still leave us without an answer. Either way I have to wait 'til June for the HSG because of insurance.

It just doesn't make sense!

I really didnt think the HSG hurt much. Mostly like Bad Period pains, tho my normal period cramping is HORRIBLE so it didnt hurt as much as cramps normally do for me.

Thanks ces! I heard if your monthly cramps are bad then the HSG hurts a little more than if you we're to have mild cramps. That makes me feel a little better because I don't have bad cramps at all.

I actually saw a new doctor today and she seems to think I won't need the HSG at all, but we'll see.

hum weird i put another reply here but it seems to be gone :(//oh well...basically i said what she said..lol''good luck

:dust: i go for my HSG on Thursday afternoon; i have also had thyroid problems in the past, which seem to be cleared up now. i'm also pretty nervous about whether it will hurt (i happen to have some hydrocodone left over from an ankle injury a few weeks ago and i think i'm going to take that before i go. i already asked the office what i should take and they didn't even suggest ibuprofen, which i thought was really weird.) you are so lucky that your insurance is going to cover it! mine is going to be over $1000 and my insurance won't cover it at all (and they're making me pre-pay before the appointment).
