well hopefully this wont bore you all to death,

anyway me and oh have been trying for approx 2 years but not used any contraception for 3.
anyway this week i finally plucked up the courage to go to the doctors he was really sympathetic told me not to worry and that we would sort things out.

i explained that for as long as i came off the pill(dianette) my periods had been irregular from aprox 23-34 days ish and that when i chareted my temps there were no significant changes and i have no fertile cm. anyway i was expecting him to do blood tests but no......he said that from what i said i am having annovulatory cycles and that we needed to regulate my cycles, so he has put me on the pill (microgynon) for 3 months and when i go back in 3 months with regular cycles he will give me some fertility medication ( i assume he means clomid?!?!?)

then he said if things still dont work he send me for scans etc

this is not what i was expecting can anyone make sense of this!!!!

Hi ineed,
I'm a bit surprised he didn't do any blood tests to confirm that you are annovulatory. The good news is that Clomid will certainly help you if you are (although it's annoying that you have to do the pill thing first of course...)

My doctor wouldn't prescribe Clomid to me until we'd done ALL the tests, which were:
- Day 21 blood test to see if I was ovulating
- Ultrasound to check for normal shape of uterus and other bits
- HSG (which is a dye injection test) to see if fallopian tubes are blocked
- Semen analysis for DH

He said there was no point in prescribing me clomid to fix my ovulation, if my tubes were blocked anyway, or if there was a problem with my DH.

Good thing he did too, because it turned out that as well as me having PCO, my DH has very poor quality sperm. So Clomid would never have solved the problem for us.

Having said all that, there is every chance that it will solve the problem for you. I would ask the doctor about doing some tests for sure, but probably keep on with what you're doing in the meantime.

Good luck :flower:

ineedbabydust - I'm surprised Dr has put you back on the pill! However it just shows different practices do different things as when I first went to my Doctor she just referred me to our local hospital.

Good Luck x

Quite surprised too that your Dr has put you back on the pill - but hey, I'm no Dr so I am not criticising. I just wonder though if it's worth getting a 2nd opinion, to see if there is any alternative at all? I am only thinking that if I was in your situ and told to take contracption I just don't think I could do it, as it would mean 3 months with no chance of a BFP? I hope you don't think I'm being mean for saying this, it's just my opinion! Good luck whatever you decide to do; it sounds as though you have a Dr who will help you get to where you want to be. X
