I'm really confused! (Clomid)

Hi everyone, I'm new here.

I've just had my first consultation with a fertility clinic today & I'm a little confused about what's going to happen.

Since coming off the pill (and always) I've had irregular periods, at the moment I haven't had a period for four months. My GP took some blood tests to check my hormone levels. He said that the results were good and I don't have any hormone imbalances. He then referred me to a fertility clinic.

My appointment was today, the Doctor said they're going to wait for the results of my DBF sperm analysis and if they come back fine then they're going to start me on clomiphene.

The thing is I've never had any "investigations" or tests to see if there is anything wrong with my actual reproductive system. They just seem to be taking it as "You're not ovulating, we'll give you pills"

Is this right? To me it seems like I should at least have some kind of scan or examination?

i would have thought they would have done a scan as that is the first thing they did for me, i also had an internal, post coital test and then a laproscopy which finally showed pcos, i started on clomid yesterday. However when i saw the fertility nurse she did say if they didnt find anything they would treat me the same way ( ie with meds ) but they do the tests to rule other things out i supose

I gather every Drs/Hospital works slightly different though, could u speak to the fertility nurse at all and ask about other tests if your worried? Its stressfull times this TTC malarky isnt it?

Hi, and thanks for the reply!

I also thought they would've given me some tests, like I said to my DBF I don't want to have something to make me ovulate if there are other problems. I want a baby so badly I don't know how I'd cope if I got pregnant and then lost the child, and it'd hurt even more if it was down to something they could've spotted by giving me tests.

On my next appointment I might try and pluck up the courage to ask him about tests... And yep, I know what you mean about stressful! I was TTC a few years ago with an ex partner and it totally took over my life! I'm trying not to let that happen this time around but it's so hard!

I never got any tests until after trying with Clomid a couple cycles. All DR's are different, so maybe they are just going to see if Clomid does the trick!

Not quite sure why you would be put on Clomid before your tubes had been checked. Taking Clomid with blocked tubes is completely pointless and has zero chance of success. What's the point in ovulating if your eggs cannot get through to your uterus? Ask them WHY they have put you on Clomid without first checking whether or not it's going to be effective. A simple HSG can see if your tubes are open.

I would ask for an HSG. Definitely no point in taking clomid if there's something wrong with your tubes. I have had blood tests and done temp monitoring to see if I ov (looks like I do). Am having an HSG next week and if it's clear then my doc wants me to try clomid anyway. H is getting a semen analysis done too. We've been TTC for 13 months with no luck.

Yes, I got pregnant first round. Unfortunatley, I also have recurrent m/c, and I lost the pregnancy.
