I'm actually quite scared haha! How did everybody go about telling their boss? I work in retail (clothes store) So its obviously not my career or anything but obviously they need to be told haha. Did you have it in writing when you first went to them or did you wait until after to give them an 'official' confirmation?? I dont know what to do??

Also, I work with one of my closest friends, who I havent told yet! How do I go about telling him without my friend overhearing? (the office door is always open! So all she would have to do is walk past and overhear?!?!?! Haha!

Help pretty please. . . . xxxx

Thanks for all of ur messages! I ended up telling him on Sunday rather than Thurs! I told my friend (the one I work with) On Saturday night, then on Sunday morning it was just me and my boss in work in the morning so I told him! He was just like :O:O WOW,Okay, are you really? haha and started asking about maternity leave and that so it was fine! Woo! Thank you xxxx

I called up my boss and told him and then made an official announcement wen everyone was in.

maybe say that you need a private word & hopefully your boss might close the door?
I just emailed my boss :haha: then he posted me all the information I needed, what maternity leave/pay I was entitled to. all of my managers & the board of directors congratulated me at the annual conference before my colleagues knew, and then I asked them to announce it in the weekly newsletter. hope it all goes well for you :) xx

haha well im in work 5 days a week so there would be no point in phoning or e-mailing them haha. i just realised tho that there will only be me, my boss and my friend in work tonight sooo. . . if i was to go through the back and speak to him my friend would therefore have no choice but to stay on the shop floor! Bam, plan sorted haha! I think i'll be okay, im ready for everybody to know now!! ! ! Thanks xxx

I was so scared to tell my boss. I texted him!lol
good luck hun..xx

so far we have a text, an e-mail and a phone call! haha am I the only one crazy enough to want to tell him face-to-face!

i told my boss after my 12 week scan as im not planning on staying there much longer as, its not enough money, and the workplace isnt what you'd call safe, so im planning on leaving at 28 weeks. but i told her face to face and asked her for a private word. xxx

Definitely tell him face-to-face.. it's the most professional way to go about it.. plus I'm sure he'd appreciate it more. When I told my boss I waited until I was 25 weeks pregnant and I was so petrified to tell her, but afterwards I felt like such a loser because I had made such a huge deal about it. I didn't write anything to her prior to meeting with her.. but I just sat down and said "I need to talk to you about something"... and then I just flat out said "I'm pregnant"... the look on her face was priceless. She opened her mouth really wide for like 5 seconds and it was so scary but she gave me a huge hug and my co-workers and boss have been nothing but supportive! :) Good lucck.. you'll feel so much better when it's over with :)

I don't know how to tell my boss either. I work for a catering agency and they send me to different places all the time so i know that when i tell him he's going to say theres no work available for me thats suitable. So i've decided to wait until 24 weeks and then go into see him. I plan to tell him but also have it in writing so that its been done formally too as i'm supposed to state when i plan to start my maternity leave etc and have a risk assessment done. Anyway sorry for the long post! Good luck :)

I get on really well with my manager and when i went in he was on his lunch break in the staffroom on his own so i just went i need to talk to you and he was like are you okay? I just went yeah i'm pregnant and he was over the moon for me lol. So i had it really easy he's been fantastic throughout it all!

good luck hope it all goes well!

Yeah it's lucky I get on well with everyone I work with. And my manager got backfrom paternity leave 6 months ago :) he just kept saying 'shut up Laura, your the good one at work'

Where I work I have a store manager & 3 team leaders. I asked my TL if I could have a quiet word with her and told her then. I didn't need to put it in writing or anything but I think that's a policy that varies from place to place

It was so embaresed telling work, i waited for AGES! and finally i just couldnt hide my bump any longer!

so i went to my manager, can i have a little word in your office? and she was like yeh ok.. so i told her, and she said - i thought you were just getting fat  LOL

I told my boss face to face ..... Kinda after a week of straight throwing up he more or less guessed it so there was no point in hiding it. Id go with Face to face It was best
