I just had my ultrasound I should be 9 weeks, but my doctor says I'm 8. She told me not to worry about that because everything is measuring together in sequence(I've had 4 ultrasounds so far). Anyways, she told me that the baby is growing fine, it's heart rate is 183, but the fluid seems to be lacking around the little baby! I'm so scared. She reassured me not to worry, but she's supposed to tell me that right? My baby looks weird. I'm so scared! Is there anything I can do to get the fluid better? I don't drink a lot of water like I should, should I start drinking water like mad? Has anyone had this before? Good and bad outcomes please. I posted a picture so you can see how weird it looks. I am so scared. What are those lines in it's head? Why is there a dip in the skull?

i didn't want to read and run. It may just be the angle it caught the little one at. As for the fluid, drinking more can do no harm...

I think you need to try and stop worrying:hugs: At this gestation babies look pretty weird. I don't think yours looks abnormal at all, in fact I think I are pretty lucky to have a recognisable baby at all. Did the doctor think that the fluid is low or is that your interpretation? I wasn't aware that you could even measure fluid levels at this early gestation. If your doc says there is nothing to worry about then I think that's probably true. Doctors are there to tell you the truth not to falsely reassure you. The sad truth is that at this early gestation there really isn't much we can do to help our pregnancy progress safely. Eating and drinking well, not stressing and avoiding smoking, acohol and drugs are pretty much all we can do.

Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy.:hugs::flower:

Hi Hippiemamma,

1 week out is quite normal, you don't know when you ovulated so that could account for 5 days straight away.

Take a look at some of the pics on https://pregnancy.about.com/od/pregnancycalendar/ig/8-Week-Ultrasound-Photos/
some of them are very strange looking, which is completely normal! A lot of people hope that the scans are going to turn out lovely pictures but they are only one for medical reasons and so getting the best picture isn't the sonographers priority. Your baby looks normal, the "dint" in the head is probably a shadow or the density of the bone (which isn't there yet - it's too early to have formed)

Drink water (8 glasses a day) and take your folic acid and pre-natel vits. If your sonographer felt that there was reason to be concerned then she would have refered you to a Dr. It is her ethical duty not something she's trying to avoid you from having to deal with so you don't stress :-)

Just out of interest why have you had 4 scans by week 8?

I would say relax and stop looking for problems, although it's easier to say then do and you have another 32 weeks to go and then a lifetime of worry :-)

xxx

Well my doctor did mention that the fluid around the baby was lacking some, they tend to like to see a little more room around 8 weeks.
I have had 4 because I have had 2 miscarriages in the past and I am only 21. So she has been checking things regularly to make sure nothing is going wrong.

Hya,

I'd maybe call and ask for clarification, although i'm only suggesting this to put your mind at rest. As Bumpontherun says, there isn't much that can be done until at least 24 weeks (when the baby could probably survive if it was born) so the scans are well being scans ie for your peace of mind) I agree also that at this stage they don't measure fluid as it's not as relevant (the baby isn't surviving off the amniotic fluid it's surviving off the yolk sac not placenta).

I'm sorry you have suffered two losses, in the UK they only investigate after at least 3 losses in a row, do they have any idea what caused them? You are nearly at the 12wk mark when things should feel safer and the chances of losses reduces significantly. Have you seen a heart beat? (That improves chances significantly too x)

I would still recommend drinking lots and taking your folic acid and trying to relax a little, your bean looks normal to me xx

Thank you. I think she explained it more as, the baby doesn't have much room in there. I think I am going to call her tomorrow so my boyfriend & I can go in and talk about so we both feel better.
They only investigate here after 3 also, although, I do know that the first one was an etopic pregnancy that they caught at 5 weeks and the second was a chemical my levels only got to 30 and I was only about 4 weeks. Neither of them we saw a sac or anything with ultrasounds. I have saw the heart beat with this little one, twice. 5 weeks it was 128 bpm, today it was 183 bpm. I also heard it when I was in the ER last week.

Thank you for the reassurance.

At 8 weeks the skull isnt actually fused together properly yet. This is my scan pic of baby at 8 weeks 2 days (head is to the left of the pic). Then compare to the second pic of my 16 week 6 days ultrasound. My babies head is fine and yours will be too xxx

I agree with the other ladies here. My babies also looked really weird on the U/S initially... but please don't worry and trust your body.
