Hubby is sending me some money to tide me over while I'm in the UK - he's in the US. I need the money asap to get groceries and he was suggesting paypal (which takes like 3 working days to get from PP account to bank account - meaning tuesday the money would be in my account) bank transfer would work similarly... So we're looking at wiring the money? Unless anyone else has a better suggestion...

Can anyone recommend how to go about this? Are there websites or do certain banks do it?... Bit lost, but I'm looking for instant transfer or at least only something like 1 working day.

xx

think u can do it through royal amil and its pretty much instant transfer Kx

dont know if they have them in the uk but what about western union?>
Maybe just do some on western union to tide you over till the pay pal>

Thanks girlies!

Royal mail looks to be a £12 charge to send £50!!!!

Tried Moneygram website and for $89 it wants $11... Wow, I was not expecting it to be this much!! DH says Western Union takes a couple of days to transfer.... Moneygram is 10 minutes apparently!

Blargh!

xx

maybe just do some to tide you over put the rest on pay pal so your not paying out the nose hun,

It seems to be a minimum charge of $11 anyway :nope: So probably just worth doing the whole lot... I really wasn't expecting it to be this much  A couple of quid maybe, but £12?!!???!

ouch but i guess its for ppl in need and they will spend it when they need it

Yeah, they're making the most out of people leaving things til the last minute... Unfortunately DH only gets his first paycheck, since he's been home, tomorrow...! I guess I could leave it, but my mum NEVER gets groceries in (and being pregnant, I need to eat to stop myself feeling sick!) so I wanted to order some ASAP...Just wonder if the trucks will actually get through!! :S

xx

That really sucks hun! make sure you eat thats important!!!
I think you mean to deliver the grocery's?? i would check with the store before you place
an order.

I'm trying! My mum really doesn't seem to understand how much I need/want....she's still giving me like kids portions! Still treating me like a kid too...maybe she thinks I'm 5?

Yeah I do. The ones I've checked on are still taking bookings, but say that they may delay or cancel the orders if they can't get through...so it's a bit hit and miss.

Can he order the groceries for you online and pay at his end? x

That's what we were discussing last night... I think there's an international transaction fee, but I expect it's a lot less than the charges for transferring money!!

What about credit cards?

If your OH has one, even if he is at his limit, he could pay the amount you want him to send off on it, let you have his card # to order groceries??

Nah, we don't have any credit cards.

Ended up going shopping today and getting a couple of things...not really enough for a good few days, plus I need some money for lunch tomorrow-I just remembered...gay. I had to use my cash. I think DH is going to transfer the money into my paypal, so I can pay for something on ebay and then I'll just do the regular withdraw and hope it gets in asap! I have like £10 and I'm going for lunch with a friend tomorrow, hopefully he'll cover the bill! I highly doubt it though, he's a student!

Could really have done with an extra card for our joint bank account - our bank sucks though, so we were thinking about changing.....We'll figure something out. Sorry rambling!!

xx

Can't anyone lend you the money until the money clears Hun???

Unfortunately not, my mum is skint til the end of the month, thus why I had to pay for my shopping today, my dad is Scottish (explains all really ) but seriously he is very tight with money and would make a huge deal out of it, and I'd get sarcastic comments for being pregnant, from him/stepmum, and having to borrow cash... :dohh: Basically, no, lol! I have like £28 on a bloomin' New Look card and nothing that I really want from New Look, I told stepmum to give me cash instead! :dohh: Would've been handy right about now! Oh well. TBH DH has put me in this position because he made me pay for everything right up until the last few days he was here, because he didn't want to change his cash.

I'll cope, it's just annoying really.

Which bank are you with? most UK banks now participate in faster transactions between all banks, meaning, if you want to transfer money from an HSBC account to a Halifax one the most time it should take is 2 hours. I use it regularly when my hub is in Germany and needs some extra cash. It usually goes in instantly.

IBC in America and Abbey in the UK... I guess I could ask hubby to enquire when he goes into the bank (only they're complete arses usually)... Paypal takes 2-3 working days though and my mum said banks usually take 3 days... Worth enquiring though! Thanks for the info! :)
