I'm currently ebf my 4 week old and me and hubby have been discussing contraception. With my older boys I exclusively bf and my periods didn't return til they stopped at 1yr ans 2yrs respectively so hoping for the same this time round. Hubby wants to get the snip but I'm not overly keen on the idea as I feel its too final so I've been trying to convince him that I have the implant instead. My question is if I do go on the implant will this bring my periods on despite me ebf? I tend to get anaemic easily so would rather I have no periods for as long as possible as they can get quite heavy at times causing my anemia to worsen x

I'm with you - no need to get snipped when there are long-term birth control methods out there.

Not sure which hormonal birth control methods are ok with breastfeeding. I went the non-hormonal route with a copper IUD. IMO, it's the best method available because it does not have hormones and has the lowest failure rate.

I had the implant at 6 weeks after birth. My period only came back about 2 months ago. It has just been spotting, although this seems to be every day which is a real pain. Hoping it will stop soon or I may have to re-evaluate as was hoping for no periods altogether.

Thanks ladies. Tulip I'm not keen on the coil after my mum had problems with hers it put me off. So the implant is the only option as I'm too forgetful to take a pill.

Fortune cookie hope that it's the same for me too when I get it put in x

As far as I know the implant is progesterone based, so like the mini pill, injection, and Mirena coil, it is more likely to keep your periods away than bring them on.

Progesterone based contraceptives CAN sometimes reduce milk supply so it is based to wait till bf is well established.

I had the implant fitted at 9 weeks pp and started to bleed. I bled constantly until I got fed up and had it removed 2 weeks ago.
It's hit and miss with the implant, with some people it's fab and keeps them at bay and with others it's terrible.
I've had 3 - the first, no periods. The second - bled almost constantly for 1.5 years. The 3rd, well as I said.

And like a PP said. I'm pretty sure it did reduce my milk supply as about 10/11 weeks pp is when we started to struggle with breast feeding and I struggled to pump much..
