In the area and surrounding areas where I live, women are given the option to have a cesarean section. I think that is kinda crazy. They say that C-sections are popular in my area now days. Why in the world would a person opt to get cut open....I would rather push the baby out and tear, then be cut wide open. Recovery time is said to be longer with C-section and it is said to be a bit more painful. What are you guys opinions on this?

i think there are benefits for both tbh, i dont know what id chose if i had the choice though they both have such pros and cons xoxo

I just think its kinda crazy to WANT a c-section because the recovery time is suppose to be longer. Why would a person want to take longer to recover. There is nothing wrong with getting one, especially if its going to benefit you and your baby's health, but people don't worry about scarred tissue, and all that etc?

i have had one and chances are ill have one in this pregnancy but i do think its worng thats its an option people have got with their first baby, over here they are only used if there are complications during pregnancy or labour or if you have had a previous c-section u are offered another one which is optional due to the scar rupturing. i dnt think it should be handed out to people who dnt need them though, i would have loved to have given birth naturally but babys health came first and that was the main thing xx

Thats exactly what I'm saying! Why in the world would a person give up the opportunity to have a natural birth, when there are so many people out here that would have loved to give birth naturally! I just don't think its right to have the option to get one if you aren't in need of one.

Why anybody would choose to undergo major surgery, rather than do something that is perfectly natural it totally beyond me, and I don't think they should have the option!

exactly, they shouldnt have then option when they are totally capable of doing it naturally!
its part of womanhood really isnt it?
ive heard of too push too push but its ridiculous unless its for the obvious reasons of course xx

I personally would prefer to have a C-section, and if I get to decide, then I think I will choose to...
I mean baby still comes out healthy either way...I just have a massive phobia of giving birth naturally. Best i'm put under really! I don't think it's fair to judge people who do opt for a C section. I mean its kinda like judging a woman for opting to formula feed instead of breast feed. Either way, baby is gonna be fine....

i might HAVE to have a c-section.. and i don't like the thought of it..
but as long as my little girl comes out okay, of course i won't mind too much..
but women were made to do this - i don't see why you'd go for C-sections.. but just an opinion..
xxxx

It's not the same at all, a c-section is a major operation, and any operation can go wrong, I don't think a baby would be 'fine' if it's mother died on the operating table, OK so that's not likely, and I obviously don't have a problem with csecs when they are necessary, I guess if your paying for it as they do in the US then it's their choice. I'd be very unimpressed if I were paying taxes for people to have unnecessary elective csecs on the NHS

What if you have a phobia of it though? The thought petrifies the hell out of me...and I'm private anyway so nobody is paying for me.

I dont know why anyone would choose to have one. I guess some of it could be vanity. I.e, women don't want everything down there changing, they don't want the pain, the "unglamourness" of labour... I know alot of celebs opt for it, being "too posh to push" is quite common these days and accepted.... I have to now have c-sec's with future babies, which i'm not ecstatic about but i am soo glad i don't have to go through the sheer trauma of labour when it goes wrong.

i think this could get quite a touchy subject...

but in the hospital near me, they have classes and special midwives for people who have had c-sections before, so that they don't have to have one again if they don't want to..
obviously labour is scarey.. it's the scariest thing a woman goes through - but a c-section is also scary.. i know someone who had a c-section and it got infected (whilst she was still in hospital).. she ended up staying in alot longer, was in so much pain..
i'd hate to go through that
xxxx

maybe you should read these https://parenting.ivillage.com/pregnancy/plabor/0,,8zp5z6lt,00.html https://www.naturalbirthandbabycare.com/vaginal-birth.html

In the end of the day if that's what you choose that's up to you, and I realise no one would be paying for you as the NHS don't offer elective csec when there isn't a medical reason.

Is this phobia something you've had since you were young, I can't say I ever thought of giving birth until after I was pregnant.

well dont know how true this is, but i have read online, that elective c sections carried out around time of due date without labor starting have lower still birth risk.

don't quote me, not even sure on that one myself. but if that was true i can understand women choosing to have a c section. it made me consider it, but i haven't looked properly into it.

Also I should add I don't think anyone is ever thrilled at the idea of being in agony, I'm sure the thought of labour terrifies most women the first time, but the thought of having surgery, rather than a few hrs of pain, I know which makes more sense to me!

I can't find anything saying if that is true or otherwise but a csec can mean higher risk of still births in subsequent pregnancies.

I wish I hadnt' started googling tbh because some of the things I've read are really scary, obviously I have no intention of having a cesarean but if it was necessary I think I'd be terrified now!

I would never in a million years CHOOSE to have a C section. It is major abdominal surgery and it has a longer recovery time... many women I know who have had to have one have felt that because of the recovery time and the pain you get for weeks after they didn't bond as well with their babies because they couldn't hold them or bend down to pick them up because they would be in agony. Not saying this is true for everyone of course. Natural birth is scary and I would understand why people would be scared or anxious about it. But your body is designed to push a child out. And I would much rather let nature takes its course tbh. I find the idea of a caesarean MUCH more scary

ETA: As for the whole idea of women not wanting things 'down there' to change from having a baby, most of the stuff is a load of BS anyway. You apparently get looser and sex isn't as good? Rubbish. It actually tends to make you tighter and therefore sex is more enjoyable

I'm petrified of the birth, but I think I'd be more scared with a C-section!
I'm not good with pain and I'd rather have a lot of pain for a shorter amount of time than for weeks after.
I can see why you'd want to, and I'm not judging you, I just understand what everyone else is saying about not choosing it. x

Personally.. I can't see why anyone would WANT one.. I know sometimes its a case of having to for emergency or health problems but even so I'm sure ladies that HAVE to have them don't actually WANT them.. I could be wrong though... A girl I work with left last year to have a baby and she had to have a c-section because she had pre-eclampsia and she said she wasn't allowed to do ANYTHING for 8 weeks and even got "told off" by her HV for sitting on the floor changing her sons nappy??? What the hell.. Who would CHOSE to not be able to bond with there baby for so long just for the sake of not having to push???.. I think it's ridiculous that you get to choose.. I'm not getting at ladies that HAVE to have them so don't get me wrong I just can't see the sense in willingly putting yourself through major surgery just to save themselves the pain of labour .. Just my personal opinion though
