Hey Ladies,
I'm new to this whole pregnancy and forum thing. I am pregnant with my first child (about 14 weeks in now) and my OBGYN is monitoring my cervix since I have had a LEEP procedure done in the past. I had a sonogram last week and my Dr was concerned. He said my cervix was funneling and reading at 17 mm. I went for a second opinion at a Perinatal specialist the next day (his referral) and was told my cervix was reading at 3.4 cm and the specialist told me not to worry at this moment, but we will continue to monitor it. The perinatal did not find any funneling either.
Has anyone else experienced such a drastic difference in measurement readings, or know what can cause this? I tried calling my Dr, but kept playing phone tag with the nurses. When I finally got on phone with one of the nurses she doesn't listen to the questions I am asking, and doesnt give me answers to my questions. I'm getting worried and concerned. It would not be as big as an issue, but my insurance does not cover my maternity, and I don't qualify for Gov aid, so all my visits and sonograms are out of pocket. I tried to tell the Nurse I can't afford to have 2 sonograms every 2 weeks!

Anyone have any comforting thoughts/knowledge on this?!
Thank you!

Hello. I would go with the specialist. They know better. I was measuring 3.7 at 16 weeks. I go to get another one on the 16th. I have history of Preterm labor and delivery.
You can easily see funneling. If the specialist said no funneling then there is none. I would ask for an internal every 2 weeks and a scan every 2 weeks that way they can check you twice a month but only scan you once a month. That is what i am doing.
May i ask where you live?

Anything above 3cm is good They dont want to see anything below 2.5 they start to worry. I think measurements are accurate for the length but i dont agree with the funneling sometimes. I was funneling but they told me i was not dilated by looking at my cervix on the scan but i was infact dilating. So if they see funneling and it is confirmed but they say no dilation then i would have them examine your cervix with thier fingers just to make sure.

Thank you for your reply. I'm in Tx. I go back again in 2 weeks for another sonogram with my obgyn. Hopefully they will get a similar reading to the one the specialist got. I read somewhere that it is difficult to get accurate measurments before 14 weeks. I'm hoping that information is correct, because it helped ease my mind.

If it ends up shorter, i would ask(or they might give you) Progestrone sups because they are suppose to stangthen your cervix. Most pregnant women are quilified for Medicaid. If you make alot of money you should still get it but would have to pay a co-pay. I would look into it again.
