Hi all,

I am going to be claiming benefits soon. My husband is currently unemployed and I won't be going to work at least till baby is 1 to stay at home and look after him. My question is, obviously hubs is entitled to JSA whilst his looking for work but will they expect me to go on JSA to? If not, how long would i be allowed to stay on income support, just untill my other half gets a job? Onl i really dont want to go back to work untill my baby is quite a bit older as ive always intended on being a stay at home mum!

Can anyone help as i find the job centre site confusing?!

we have just put a clain in for income support as a couple. We will get 100 a week together .You need to be main applicant and out OH on your claim x

I think you would probably have to claim JSA as a couple. Him being the jobseeker and you the partner named on his claim. I could be wrong, but didn't think you could claim income support as a couple unless you were claiming on the grounds of incapacity or caring responsibilities, because the other basis for claiming it is single parent which obviously you aren't. xx

You have to go no jsa untill you are 29 weeks then you can both go on income support, thats what we are doing however my oh is on dla so is allowed on either jsa or income support, x

My partner is on IB & DLA long term, and Im currently on JSA income-based. Once 29weeks Ill be able to make a claim for IS but told Itll only be paid till 15 weeks after the birth, then need to go back onto JSA.

If one person in a couple is getting maternity allowance and the other becomes unemployed do you get the couples rate of income support/jsa?
